Overview

Sky Raider (Deathlands Series #78) by James Axler

OUT OF THE ASHES

Raw courage and knowledge of the arcane secrets of preDark technology have enabled Ryan Cawdor and his warrior companions to live and roam a land tortured—but not destroyed—by apocalyptic madness. In a world where the price of living is paid in fl esh and blood, nothing is ever free, not even death.

DEATH FROM THE SKIES

In Deathlands, power brings more power to those able to command it by means fair or foul. Yet few among the most tyrannical barons can rival the ruthlessness of Sandra Tregart, whose despotic visions are being realized by resurrected technology: air power. With her restored biplane, she delivers death from the skies to all who defy her supremacy—a virulent ambition that challenges Ryan Cawdor and his band in unfathomable new ways.

This latest Deathlands adventure, penned this time by Nick Polatta, comes off like the last 2 he wrote, good but not great like he used to write. What happened to ya, Nick?! The problems vary from terrible editing, (Not his fault), to comic-book mutants that are not even fully described, to action scenes that don't quite live up to the past great quality that this writer used to deliver. Nick seems to have been writing in a rut now for the last 3 books of his. If I didn't know any better, I'd even venture to say that this even isn't HIS writing. His seemingly new writing habit now is to create side characters that don't seem fleshed-out, nor do I care about them. At least, unlike the last author's characterization, when Mildred again gets captured by a group of cannibals, her man, J.B., gets crazy mad and shows caring for her. Last author didn't do that. If you like decent action/adventure, then this one's for you.
