Slaying Isidore's Dragons by C. Kennedy

Follow the burgeoning love of two teens during the worst year of their lives. Irish-born Declan David de Quirke II is the son of two ambassadors, one Irish and one American. He is ‘out’ to his parents but to no one else. French-born Jean Isidore de Sauveterre is also the son of two ambassadors, one Catalan and one Parisian. His four half brothers have been told to cure him of his homosexuality. Both teens have lost a parent in a London car bombing.

Declan and Isidore meet at the beginning of their senior year at a private academy in the United States. Declan is immediately smitten with Isidore and becomes his knight in shining armor. Isidore wants to keep what is left of his sanity and needs Declan’s love to do it. One is beaten, one is drugged, one is nearly raped, one has been raped. They are harassed by professors and police, and have fights at school, but none of it compares to running for their lives. When the headmaster’s popular son attempts suicide and someone tries to assassinate Declan’s mother, they are thrown headlong into chaos, betrayal, conspiracy, allegations of sexual coercion, even murder. And one of them carries a secret that may get them killed.

If I could have given ten stars I would have done.   All of the issues in this book, young romance, sexual abuse, rape, physical abuse could have made for a dreary read but Cody Kennedy did an absolutely brilliant job of integrating facts about each without making this book a tough read.  I actually learned alot regarding the treatment of rape and abuse.  This book isn't only a fiction/romance but a guide to knowing the signs to look for in abused people. The two main Characters Isidore son of the French Ambassador and Declan the son of not one but two Irish Ambassadors.  Each boy had one parent in the same vehicle that was blown up so there is yet another tie in to what happens later in the novel. Declans mother Socha is a kick in the pants yet so real.  I truly loved their relationship and how they acted together.  Her humor can keep many a scene light yet meaningful. This has espionage, Secret services, abductions and all kinds of things that keep this book moving along at a quick pace.  The characters beg for a sequel or I do! Be ready for a wild ride that is both emotional and exciting.

Whew! This wonderful story is all encompassing. I was swept into this world of diplomats and a wonderful family that just kept growing. This story, this adventure had me wondering what would happen next after every page and I could not stop reading. The more I learned about Isidore's past, the more Declan's sanctuary became more vital. There were moments that were so real, I was there, hanging on a cliff edge. This is not an easy book or casual read but it is a MUST READ. Like Omorphi, I want to read this again (and will).
