Jillian Michaels is a successful personal trainer and author. All of her books are well written and insightful. However this one may be her best effort yet. It explains how to shed the weight and clean up your emotional baggage that brought it to your body in the first place. It puts you on the right and healthy path to get and remain slim and healthy once and for all!

You can definitely tell Jillian has loosened up a bit with this new book. Her messaging is far less intense and strict than previous books. She acknowledges right from the get that people are overwhelmed with unrealistic asks from weight loss fads. She says she knows you can't cook every meal. Can't get to the gym 5 times a week let alone 6-7. She gets that you can't afford organic food all the time and on and on. Slim for life is what you do to get results when all the above applies to you. She clears up all misconceptions on previous diet fads you might have tried or could fall victim to. She gives actionable plans that one can employ so they don't have to tediously count calories. Things as simple as telling you which cuts of meat to choose to telling you what foods to choose at an Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican restaurant and so on. She gives you tips for accelerating your workout results so every minute you get at the gym counts. Then she goes on to tell you ways of burning calories on the days you can't get to the gym. I really loved this book. It's a quick read. Straight forward. Easy to apply.

This is by far the most straightforward weight loss advice I have ever read.  Jillian is open, funny, caring and informative in this book.  Her advice is sensible, practical and affordable.  I highly recommend it.

I love Jillian and what she had done for the people that she has worked with on the Biggest Loser. She is a major inspiration for those off-screen as well. If she can maintain the 22 pounds that I recently lost using another dieting solution, I am in!

I like a lot of the stuff in here - the advice is comprehensive, and I love Jillian's tone.   Overall, I think it's a helpful guide for retooling your life to get where you want to go, weight-wise.   I did not notice any problems with Nook formatting.  As a scientist, however, I did take issue with the ways that some of the information is presented. While some peer-reviewed scientific publications are cited at the end of the book, many pieces of advice are given in a way that suggest they have strong scientific support, when in fact, that support does not exist.  No decent scientist would rely on the results of a single, un-reproduced study as evidence in support of a theory, in particular when a greater number of studies shows the opposite conclusion!  That is just not how science works.   One example: there is no scientific consensus that aspartame consumption "erode(s) intelligence".  (The reference for this in the book seems to be a dead URL to a media website.)   There also is a big difference between correlation and causation that seems to go over the author's head at times. Further, some facts are just outright wrong, such as "Most farmed fish are genetically modified."  No GM fish are being sold for human consumption at this time!  None, zero, nada (but this could change in 2013). Because some of the scientific "facts" are wrong or misinterpreted in the section of the book where I have scientific training and expertise, it makes me wonder about the quality of the information in other sections.    As a consumer, I agree with most of the advice in the book about avoiding artificial and processed foods and choosing organic, local goods as much as possible. Food tastes better that way and these production methods are way better for the environment (and more sustainable).   But I found some of the scientific evidence presented in the book to be weak and some claims to be hyperbole or outright wrong.   I feel the need to speak out in my review because the general public's acceptance of claims not supported by scientific evidence routinely gets us into trouble (i.e., anti-vaccination campaigns).   There ARE scientifically "right" and "wrong" answers on these issues - let's choose what to be afraid of and what to avoid based on objective knowledge, not feelings.

The links need work and some pages are split and don't finish the sentence ....found this out by page 22. I've asked for a refund.

This book is the best book I have ever read. I have never read a Jillian Michaels book but since she is such an inspiration to me I wanted to get it. I started reading the book and could not put it down. I ended up reading the whole book in two days which I've never done before. It's very helpful and entertaining. I didn't find myself bored at all. The information is straight forward and easy to understand.  It tells you absolutely everything you need to lose weight and keep it off. I can't wait to read this book over and over again. I definitely recommend!

Great read.  Simple way to help you lose weight, but more importantly keep it off.  I've been able to lose weight before, but not keep it off.  After reading this book I can see why.  I wasn't losing weight in ways that were sustainable and I was engaging in drastic extreme diets thinking that was the only thing that would work.  JIllian is straight forward as always.  Tells you the truth and gives you all the information so the power is in your hands.  I can tell you this, you won't walk away from this book confused.  She gives you all the tools.  ON top of the diet plan she even talks about how to combat emotional eating.  There really is no stone left unturned in this book.

Is anyone else having issues with some sentences not being completed on the next page? Seems to be a consistent thing on the "Slim Myth" portions of the book. Otherwise, love the book.

So far so good.  Really love the food section.  Jillian gives you the tools to do everything from eat out, cook, even eat "treat foods" and still lose weight.  She makes it pretty effortless, which is saying a lot for Jillian.  I think she finally realizes that normal people can't afford organic food or work out all the time and has come up with a more reasonable plan while still putting the power for accelerated results in your hands.  Liking it a lot.

My favorite JM book so far.  She really makes you stop and look at how you've been living so you can understand what you've been doing wrong and subsequently how to fix it.  The book is fun and easily digestible.  The information is a mix of common sense and then at times totally eye opening.  Jillian does tell you that though in the beginning.  She says she included some of the more obvious info along with the more groundbreaking info for those who might now yet know some of the more well known stuff already.  Definitely learned so much about the mistakes i've made in the past with my dieting attempts and I'm really excited to put this plan to work.

I love how Jillian breaks down all the information and gives you answers on any and every possible diet pitfall from cravings to hunger to plateaus.  She is honest as always, but somehow slightly softer with this book than any other she has written.  There is an honesty, humility and candor to her tone that I have found very refreshing.  She really leaves no stone left unturned and even rates her advice on what's most effective and essential so you can consider than when deciding which techniques to implement.  Loving it so far.

Smart and eye opening.  I really like the fact that this book offers a lasting approach to weight loss and not a quick fix.  Jillian's advice is easy to follow

I've had the book for two weeks now and I am down 10lbs!  I like her eating plan.  I feel like I can have my favorite foods, but finally know how to consume them and still be successful.  I can see why she says for life on her cover.  The way she has you approach weight loss is very easy to maintain so I imagine I'll be able to do this the rest of my life only eating more when I go into "maintenance mode".  I really enjoyed the read. It's quick, easy, and straight forward.  She gives you the tools to be successful in any and every possible scenario.   Highly recommend.

Picked up the audio book in store, I am a slow (or never finish it) reader. I went back & forth between getting the book or audio, so glad I initially bought the audio. It is read by Jillian which makes it all the more better. I do however, plan to buy the book so I can have the paper reference for the all that she covers. It is great, some parts are repetitive but it makes sense. Overall it the information very simplified and well covered. I too get overwhelmed or conflicted what is & isn't best to follow and she sums it up clearly and informatively. Looking forward to my hardcopy too.

As always, Jillian's approach is fantastic. I was not pleased with the Nook version, as some of the pages split, & it was hard to read. If I can return the Nook read & purchase the book, I would. Overall information is realistic, & easy to follow. She is no nonsense, right to the point. If you love Jillian Michaels, you will definitely enjoy this. Buy the book

I love how Jillian breaks it all down and cuts to the chase.  She tells you what works, what doesn't and why. You can tell she really cares about your results and has put a lot of work and thought into giving people the answers and solutions they are looking for when it comes to getting their health on track.  Her diet plan is easy to follow and she makes room for treats.  Teaches you how to best manage hunger when dieting, handle cravings, and still get a burn in even when you can't get to the gym.  Really enjoying this book.  I recommend it for anyone looking for the truth on how to lose weight.

I love everything Jillian Michaels and mean everything but this book was not that great. It was confusing and all over the place. It never focused on one area and or followed through with it. As soon as you learned something it pushed you on to the next subject. I'm returning it back to target today. But if i see another Jillian Michaels book I will still buy it and try it out. I have get first three books proudly on my shelf. I love her.

I'm 63 & have a daughter that is 30. After reading it I gave it to my daughter to read & we came up with the same answer. Most of the advise was common sense & is in most magazines. I guess the true answer to saying slim for life is " Stop eating so much & exercise more."

I found the book gave you many points to work with. The layout was so you did not have to read pages and pages to get the point. I bought it for my nook but thought I would actually like another copy in print also

Down 7lbs in two weeks.  Slim for Life is intelligently written and her plans seem sustainable. The plans are well-outlined, and the science behind them, well-explained. Jillian really seems to get it and what it takes for people to be successful in this endeavor.  She clears up misinformation and gives real advice that works. I'm very happy with my results so far.
