After losing her mother to breast cancer and having an absent father, Danielle Pashko was living as a teenager on her own in Manhattan. She worked as a model to support herself, although much of her free time was spent studying yoga, massage, holistic nutrition and healing modalities.

While later working as the "go to" practitioner for everyone's health issues she, ironically, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her strongly ingrained philosophy of restrictive eating and physical discipline had to be questioned. "Was drinking green juice, going gluten free, veganism and a daily yoga practice a cure all?" Danielle believes that we can take all the external measures in the world to achieve health and happiness, but there are never any guarantees. Smile At Your Challenges is her personal story of overcoming unexpected obstacles (in all areas of life) and even having humor about it. We plan and God laughs, but there's always a reason behind our circumstance.

Replete with anecdotes and observations about the human condition, this is a book that invites thoughtful consideration of our relationships with others, our relationship with a higher power and, most importantly, the ongoing relationship we nurture - or should be nurturing - with our own selves.

After a sad and troubled start to her life the author is a wonderful example of how things can turn around, how you can achieve what you truly want in life and be happy. Through her own experiences she guides you to think about what it is that you feel you are missing or that you need in order to feel satisfied and happy or even what it is that your ignoring, fearing it will hurt you in some way.  She explains that you can do as much as you want to try to be happy but it's the inner you, the very core of you, that needs to find true happiness before you will start to feel any real benefits. 'Love', 'community', 'social', 'time for yourself' - all things I've read before and highlighted that I need to improve and work on yet here I am again highlighting them.  It has certainly been a good push to look at those areas of need again and consider changes in all areas of life.   An empowering quick read with friendly advice to inspire you to find out who you really are and of course - to smile inside and outside!

Reviewed by Danita Dyess for Readers' Favorite Danielle Pashko is the author of Smile at Your Challenges. She should know – after all, Pashko has it all – a flourishing wellness practice in New York, Miami and Los Angeles; beauty, vibrant health, intelligence and talent. But life used to be tough. At 13, she was teased because she had a 5’ 10” body and a sexy, signature mole on her gorgeous face. Additionally, her mother died of cancer after marrying a ruthless man intent on collecting the insurance money. Decades later, she was stricken with thyroid cancer. Today she attests happiness is an inside job and life is as we deem it. Following Pashko’s wise words, you will learn how to handle your emotions, resolve daddy issues, eat healthily, etc. Most importantly, you will set your desires, yet be open to the way they manifest. I loved Smile at Your Challenges because I could relate to Pashko’s challenging teenage years as a basis for future success. Detailed stories about the teenage angst suffered from four different high schools were dramatic yet humorous. Danielle Pashko is the CEO of Pashko Wellness. Her 15 years of experience includes licensure as a massage therapist, certification as a yoga instructor and expertise as a nutritional consultant. Her clients are The Sports Club in L.A., The Reebok Sports Club, etc. Her articles have appeared in The NY Post, The Jewish Week, etc. Smile at Your Challenges is highly recommended.

In my profession I work with a lot of young models. Without the right guidance, it's easy to be swayed into unhealthy habits- especially in a city like New York. Danielle, the character that "Smile At Your Challenges" is based on, made a lot of the right choices even when it wasn't so easy. I recommend her book to all the girls at my agency. Not only does she understand the business of being a model, but she's even better at being a Role Model.

Smile at your challenges is not just another book on wellness. It's more about Danielle Pashko's personal life, how she lost her mother to breast cancer and having an absent father. But after all of that she manages to stay positive and never look down on life,to keep moving forward and never give up on yourself. To have a healthy mind no matter how much one is challenged in life, and it will definitely make you smile!

Smile At Your Challenges is a reminder to be thankful for the blessings and disappointments in life. It was one of the most original books I have ever read and I loved the author's humor and vulnerability  throughout all of her hardships. I'd highly recommend to any woman I know!
