Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Enid Portnoy
When Smurfette enters the village of the Smurfs she does not realize that she was sent there to do bad things to upset the other Smurfs. The wizard was responsible for her bad behavior but he was hoping to learn some of the secrets of the Surfs to gain more power. Smurfette knew she was different from anyone else and felt that no one liked her. It took the encouragement of Papa Smurf to help he learn to be nice to others so they are eager to make friends with her. It takes some magic by the wizard and his traps to help her discover who her real family and friends should be. The text is simple but with a few quirky surprises thrown in. Children will probably be familiar with these comic book characters as they appear in movies, TV shows, toys, and books. The comic book style drawings are colorful with the Smurfs looking like strange blue toys. There is the usual happy ending, which will be comforting to small children who may follow Smurfette’s adventures with some misgivings. The book is part of the series “The Smurfs 2.” Stickers are included. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy; Ages 4 to 8.
