Overview

What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?

All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.

What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s a brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also might find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.

When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership together using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot but at least there’s make-up sex now.

But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?

I love all of Karina Halle's books and this one was a really fun read. I laughed out loud so many times and really loved her characters. Karina is one of my favorite authors and she does an awesome job writing different types of books. I like that some of her books make me cry and my heart break while still making me happy. This book wasn't as deep as some of her others but that's what made it so fun to read. I highly recommend reading all her books; you will relate to her characters and fall in love with them.

Wow. This book… I was excited but also nervous when I started to read. First this is a new genre for Halle that seems so out of her zone. That girl can write the passion and angst, but can she level it off with comedy and humor? Well the jury is back in and she nailed it. I fell in love with this book. The story, the characters, the humor, and the situations all melded into a story that kicked the romantic comedy genre in the teeth. It is not slap your knee funny, but instead it is the smirk, “well played sir,” and bark out loud laugh type of funny. It is a smart and nerdy humor that book people will fall in love with. Any book that can bring humor to the secret life of writing erotica as a love story unfolds is one that will draw people. The things that make this story grab attention is the comedy and storyline. Halle has incredible characters in Blake and Amanda, two different and strong people who carry the humor and themes brilliantly. Blake is the swoon worthy manwhore who is secretly so much more. Amanda is the opinionated yet quiet woman who longs for more in so many ways. These two butt heads ALL the time but their angst is perfect. It creates a tension that gives the book a steady build. They are seemingly different but as you read they connect in more ways than you might have anticipated. One of the best parts about this book, by far, is the humor. It stands out in the rom-com genre. It is smart and pokes fun at something people who read romance genre will connect with. Their writing adventures are spot on. You find yourself laughing because you understand exactly what they are referring to. I felt like these two people embodied my reaction to so many sub genres in the romantic realm and it felt refreshing. I hope that Karina Halle has plans for more books like these. I know this girl can write dark and sexy but this genre is one she could do very well in. Her humor is refreshing and her story bold and fun. Smut is a brilliant summer story full of lust, laughs, passion, and everything tired romance readers have thought a time or two. Don’t miss it.

This book had me cracking up laughing one moment and fanning myself off the next! It did start off a little slow, but once I got into it, I couldn’t get the pages to turn fast enough. I loved how full of sass Amanda was and I love how the relationship between Blake and Amanda was. Also, can we talk about how I was dying laughing between the pen names they came up with and the book titles? You have to move this up on your TBR and read it soon!

I think one of my favorite things about Karina as an author is her ability to perfectly capture the essence and emotion of falling in love right down to the butterflies and sweaty palms, and the fear that it can provoke. I loved this book. I loved the story line, it was definitely different and lots of fun! I loved how well developed Amanda and Blake are as characters. I love that they seem like real people I might know in my life. I love that they aren't perfect AND that they aren't petty or bratty for the sake of being that way. Karina does such a great job at pulling me straight into the story, taking me on that emotional ride, and making me want to tear out the back page so the story never ends.

Smut is this hilarious, hot, sexy and totally just an awesome read. Amanda and Blake are total opposites. Like Amanda really really hates Blake. He’s from England and has this arrogance about him. But Amanda is smart. But she also thinks way too much. Just like all of us women. And also Amanda has issue when she becomes nervous.. You’ll find out exactly what happens in the very first chapter.  Amanda is taking a creative writing class in college and for the final assignment you can only guess who her partner is. One that is left questioning the teacher. Does the teacher really hate her that much? I loved the banter between these two and i really loved these characters.  Which leads to the, smut part of the story. Yes they decide to do the one thing. That may be out of Amanda’s character but leads to a juicy story. I don’t think I’ll walk into a Library the same ever again. They are able to explore so much about each other, without being held back. The scenes were sexy, steamy and just really ammmazzinnng. I’m swooning for these two.  Halle, really is such an amazing writer. This idea, this story was the best! I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with next....Lissa
