What People are Saying About This

Alvin Thomas Ethington

"Too often beginning writers are told to "show, not tell." However, they are not told how to do that. Lois Funk, in Snaps, Scraps and Snippets ... [does] exactly that. Every beginning writer (and some seasoned ones) should read this book. It ... uses the simplest of things — such as a sieve — to show one how to sort through the good and bad of one's writing. I would definitely recommend this book for my beginning students." — Alvin Thomas Ethington, Editor, Pieces of Her Mind; staged playwright, published author, and professional reviewer.

Snaps, Scraps & Snippets of the Past and Present: How to Retrieve the Lost Pictures of Your Past (Paperback) A book worth owning. Lois Funk is a gifted poet and story-teller with a unique style of her own. She has the remarkable ability to paint vivid pictures of times gone by through her words in a story that includes glimpses of part of her home life with her beloved family during her childhood years, told in a way that aids other writers and beginners to realize how much of their lives they can write about. She draws you in from the beginning with all the interesting photos, poems and snippets that fire the imagination and, at the same time, inspires and motivates you to write. A most enjoyable read. You will not be disappointed with this book. Excellent reading as well as a help in writing your own memories. I am not a writer, but found this book to be both enjoyable to read and a great help in writing memories in the photo scrapbook pages that I put together. This will be a "go to" book for me. It inspires me to do something I wouldn't (or couldn't) have done before without the tools the author has provided.

An entirely an exceptional written poetry handbook that can definitely be used as a poets reference. It's  easy to read find poetry that expresses the viewpoints of the author's concepts on writing poetry. The  book easily describes, through a metaphor(snapshot pictures of the mind), how one can easily write successful poetry. Through this book one can easily develop poetry and prose by simply developing a mental snapshot image.

Snaps, Scraps and Snippets is an outstanding book.  I have recently read Snaps, Scraps and Snippets by Lois J. Funk.  I literally could not put the book down.  Her ability to help the reader find their own personal memories is a feat in itself.  Yet, as we walk along-side the author, her memories challenge us to reminisce.  I was surprised to find myself re-discover so many emotions from my childhood.  Funk has a very unique way of bringing tears to our eyes, yet flavors her message with joy.  Even if we never write about our own journey, Funk challenges us to set goals and to explore our inner strengths.  If you would like to find a unique book that gives you the tools to write your story, this book is for you.  If you would rather find a meaningful book that guides you to achieve all that you can be...this book is also for you.   .

My good friend and fellow author Lois has written a masterpiece in her new book, “Snaps, Scraps & Snippets.” It grabbed my attention quickly as I opened the covers and began to read. She took me down memory lane in my own life and helped to prepare better for the remainder in a much better way. Her book teaches how to gather memories from the past and to hold onto experiences of today in such a unique way. As I read, my muse began to arouse and push me to start writing again about things I had forgotten and as well about things going on around me at the time. I would highly recommend this book for any library, school or personal collection as being a resourceful and useful tool of the young or the seasoned writer. Thanks again Lois for this wonderful book.
