A wise and beautiful queen has a daughter, but sadly dies soon afterwards. The king remarries but the stepmother is a cruel and vain woman. Snow White, so called because of her beauty, is soon lovelier than her stepmother. But the stepmother cannot accept a rival and orders that Snow White be taken from the palace and killed.

Managing to escape with her life, Snow White finds a cottage in the forest and ends up living with seven very unlikely housemates, seven dwarfs! Unfortunately the wicked stepmother has a talking mirror, which tells her that Snow White is still alive and still the most beautiful girl in the land.

The stepmother is furious and forms deadly plans to get rid of Snow White. But the seven dwarfs may have something to say about that!

In this new adaptation of the classic fairy tale, meet the seven dwarfs, Chief, Giggler, Dreamer, Echo and the remaining three, all named Hush! Will Snow White manage to avoid the evil machinations of her stepmother and how will the seven dwarfs save her?

About the Author

When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, aka the Brothers Grimm, set out to collect stories in the early 1800s, their goal was not to entertain children but to preserve Germanic folklore. Once the brothers saw how the stories entranced young readers, however, they began softening some of the harsher aspects to make them more suitable for children. A cornerstone of Western culture since the early 1800s, Grimm’s Fairy Tales is now one of the world’s most beloved books.

When I was a child, I would check this book out from our local library every week. The illustrations have stayed with me for 20 years. Now that I have a daughter, I am so glad to have found this book and to be able to share it with her. It is a striking and beautiful book. I hope others will take the opportunity to enjoy this book with their children as I will with my daughter.

I read it to my triplets every night . They love it! Great but some times we spill on the cover of book and it just wipes right off! My triplets are 4 and have another girl on the way. Will make good child memories! Great pictures and very well detailed. Would recomend it for all you moms with small children but not for ages 6 and up. My husband read this book to them while I was stuck at work and great for dads to read to their children too. Can't wait till the next fariy tale comes out like this! Worth the money!

Poet Randall Jarrell's beautiful translation and Burkert's large, colorful illustrations make this a book to be treasured and passed on from mother to child to grandchild. The text is a flowing narrative, perfect for reading aloud  in the family or to groups in a school or a library setting. I have used this book as a public library librarian and given it to young relatives. It has always been a success.

This is the best snow white and the seven dwarfs. Far outshines the disney version, I bought this to read to my kids at bedtime and they absolutley love it especially the pictures, the artwork itself is worth the price of the whole book. I would recomend this book to anyone.

This NOOKbook comes up when you look for for Caldecott Medal books, but it IS NOT the Caldecott winning version. That may not make any difference to you, but since I was purchasing books for a class requiring all of the young adult and children's literature to be books which have won one of a list of certain awards, it means it was a TOTAL waste of money for me.
