For Callie, with her serious fear of heights, the name Monster Mountain says it all. Why did she ever agree to a weekend of snowboarding with her best friend Jen? Jen is eager to brave the highest slopes and can?t stop talking about all her Olympic snowboard heroes. Callie is sick with fear. But her greater fear is that Jen will guess her secret, and that the new girl Izzy?an experienced boarder?will become Jen?s new best friend.
Author Eve Bunting, inspired by her granddaughters? interest in the sport, took to the slopes herself. What she learned about snowboarding, the hard way, lends authentic detail to this story about friendship and fear.

Callie has a best friend named Jen who is a great snowboarder. Callie is afraid of heights. Callie is afraid that if she says she doesn’t want she will take Izzy and her and Izzy will bond and Callie will become the third wheel of the group. For Callie, with her serious fear of heights, the name Monster Mountain says it all. Why did she ever agree to a weekend of snowboarding with her best friend Jen? Jen is eager to brave the highest slopes and can’t stop talking about all her Olympic snowboard heroes. Callie is sick with fear. But her greater fear is that Jen will guess her secret, and that the new girl Izzy — an experienced boarder — will become Jen’s new best friend. Award-winning author Eve Bunting, inspired by her granddaughters’ interest in the sport, took to the slopes herself. What she learned about snowboarding, the hard way, lends authentic detail to this story about friendship and fear. I liked the book because there were pictures and it helped me understand the book better. The book snowboarding on Monster Mountain was really well written. I did not like the ending of the book I thought there should have been more suspense. In conclusion, this book is an okay book I just didn’t think it was exciting. I thought it was a little dull. Callie also is also an awful snowboarder. Jen is a very talented snowboarder. The next time they go I bet Jen will take Izzy instead of Callie. Callie tried her hardest and I think Jen realized that. This an average book for any middle school student. If you are looking for an easy read book with not alot of pages this is the book for you.

This book (Snowboarding on Monster Mountain) is a decent book. It has good description of places like the description when they see the mountain. This book has a good ending and also the theme of the book comes out at the end of the book. The book starts of as friends who go on a ski trip but a girl named Callie is scared of heights but doesn't want to show it. So she goes anyway she scared so much she can't even take the ride there. It is a two day trip. Callie tries to stay off the big mountain to go on the bunny trail. They meet friends there. She tries to stay off Mammoth Mountain because she is afraid of heights. Callie stays off one day of the big mountain. Jen is the friend who took Callie and she is a ski expert. The next day she goes on the bunny trail ago. Then Jen wants to go on the big Mountain. They go up and Callie collapses because she is scared but she doesn't tell. She goes down and she said it was altitude sickness. So she is embarrassed. That night she is scared to say she is afraid of heights just then the lights go off and Jen is scared. So then they are not afraid to tell there fears. This book was decent. It was good as in it was written well. You can tell they took awhile to get a good written bookThis was a good book. The story of the book was a good topic I would recommend it. It was a short 90 page story but it was written well. It was good.
