The book starts with the basic concepts that are necessary to understand sociology. He develops the applications showing how social scientists use scientific methods. The chapter on inequality demonstrates his interests in both Kenya, where he has a college, as well as the UK where he has undertaken social research.

Academic career: He was Senior Lecturer at what is now the University of Central England and has taught social sciences for 30 years.
Examiner experience: He was the statistics examiner for the then Chartered Institute of Transport. He has also been an A Level Assistant Examiner in Labour Economics.
