Batter up! It's time for softball practice!

Aunt Gracie drives Jan and friend Sam to the park for softball practice. As she drives off, Jan and Sam wait for the other team members to arrive. But Jan starts to get worried and realizes that her Aunt Gracie left them at the wrong park. Sam has a great idea to pass the time by practicing softball. And while they're having fun, Sam's mom, Jan's dad and Aunt Gracie all arrive. And they end up having a great softball practice anyway!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In this "First Grade Friends" book which is part of the "Hello Reader!" Level 1 series, Sam and Jan are taken to baseball practice by Aunt Gracie. She drops them off and they wait and wait, but no one else shows up. Finally they figure out that Aunt Gracie left them at the wrong park. Being clever and industrious, Sam and Jan start their own practice. Finally their respective parents and a much-chagrined Aunt Gracie arrive on the scene. The simple text is engaging and Lewin's bold watercolor drawings are a perfect match. As with other books in the series, there are tips for improving reading skills on the opening page and a listing of others on the endpapers. 2001, Scholastic,
