Overview

Sojourn: An Anthology of Speculative Fiction (Volume 2) by Laura K Anderson

The talented storytellers of the Fear the Boot podcast community have returned with a new collection of worlds for you to explore. This time around, the authors were given a theme. The theme was a single word: winter. Whether it is the cold chill outside or the ice within our hearts, these stories examine, in their own unique way, aspects of winter in all its complexity. Sojourn with us to a world where a father and son struggle for the throne of the Viking clan; a world where two knights must venture to the Edge of the World on a quest of prophecy; a world where a paranormal agent investigates a Colorado town suffering in the winter; a world where a gnoll must don red and green to save Christmas with his holiday spirit...and a bit of violence. Some of these worlds will feel familiar, some will feel alien, and a few may entice you to sojourn just a bit longer.

I am generally not a great lover of anthologies. I made an exception for this title and did not regret it. Each story follows a theme so perfectly and in a completely different way. I was particularly impressed with the tale told by Elizabeth Roper and how it perfectly bridges the gap between fantasy, history, and science fiction. Thank you all for your efforts and I hope to see more soon!

A wonderful anthology by a group of new authors. This book runs the gamut of science fiction. If your looking for a books to try out different scifi themes this is the book for you. There are a few names you'll recognize here. Matt Forbeck has a good story. I can't wait for Sojourn 2. Short stories are becoming more popular and this book is a good example of why.

Sojourn is a special anthology, inasmuch as each short story offers something so vastly different and incredibly entertaining. I will continue coming back to these stories again and again, and I'll thoroughly enjoy my sojourn each and every time. The depth of this collection is matched only by the talent of its authors.

An anthology by a group of both new and established authors. The stories range from the sublime to the ridiculous, and all are well written.

I was really intrigued by the mix of social, political and spiritual investigation into urban fantasy and science fiction settings. I really loved almost every story in this anthology and wanted more than where it left off. There were one or two stories that didn't really hit it for me but honestly that's true in any anthology I read. I will definitely be giving this a second or third read through.

A nice collection of new short stories by mostly new authors, Sojourn covers wide scope of genres including Science Fiction, Space Opera, Classic Fantasy, and Modern Fantasy with moods ranging from the whimsical to the deadly serious.   A great summer read!

There is a wide spectrum of stories in this collection, both in subject matter and quality. For an amateur collection it's pretty good. A couple of the stories could have been dropped, but for the most part I enjoyed the book. I'll probably pick up the next one they put out.

This is a wonderful collection of shorts stories detailing worlds that are not too far off from our own, albeit at varying times in the history of our universe. If you love reading about new worlds and ideas and settings, this is a must read. Each story is crafted with a love that can only come from someone who loves the art of writing. I cannot express in words how wonderful it was to traipse though the imaginings of such creative people. I cannot wait for the next installment!
