"Die, you slime!!" This, coming from the "immortal" soldier from the far far future who has traveled light years to do battle on an alien planet. I literally stopped and rolled my eyes after reading this line. Hand-fired "mini-nukes" that somehow don't fry everyone with radiation?! A race of, what else?, people-eating psychic aliens that just happen to use the same rifle ammunition as humanity?!? Quite possibly one of the worst books I've read in quite a while; I wish I could not only get a refund but also purge this book from my memory.

Awful. Sums it up on one word. Interesting primise but the writing is just awful. It hits up all the most overused words in literature over and over again, i dont evem want to count how many times things were compared to angels. Finally to top it off with a lack of character development. Most readers will also find it confusing because of the lack of imformation regarding pretty much anything or times when the author contradicts himself. It had promise the story just fell short.

The first in the Legion series, Soldier shows great promise. The story is a standard space military adventure which can be difficult to pull off. The author does a decent job of holding the reader with a good storyline. There are a few problems, however. The characters show up and are interesting but without context are hard to connect with. Only vague references to thier pasts and how they got there are in the book. Likewise, the Legion itself and Con Fed are not really described. They are just there. The language and the tech also does not have much background. None of this really detracts from the story but should and peobably will be developed to a greater extent farther along in the series. The author tends to get sidetracked with philosophical ramblings and excessive wordiness on a regular basis. Less of this florid prose which adds nothing to the book and replacing it with action which the the author does very well would yield a tighter book. With these problems in mind i give the book 5 stars for the story and 2 for the outside the story additions. A solid 3 stars which can easily hit 4 or 5 in later books as the writer further develops the storyline and characters.

This is a story about a squad a la starship troopers, who in my opinion appropriated the plot of leon uris' battle cry. Nothing new. That said, I enjoyed the book. I wish the author would better define terms he made up, such a v-min etc.

First time reading book by Marshall S. Thomas. Great Author. Follows the "traditional" military sci-fi genre. Excellent nook book. Was about one-third of the way in the story and decided to go ahead and order the entire series. Would recommend it to all those who love a good futuristic "boots on the ground" military science fiction story.

I was drawn into reading this book at least two hours a day because it was soooo interesting! However, there are some errors with the text. Some of the words, I would say about 10 or so, were not displayed all the way because they got cut off. Other than those thight errors, Soldier of the Legion kept me interested and on the edge of my seat every moment that I was reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes science fiction novels, future military based readings or space and alien adventures!

I love the blatant rip off of the MA5C and ODST combat armor from the Halo series.

Normally I preview your books . I forgot to do so on this book.I regret my failure to do so. I read a lot of military science fiction. I just did not enjoy this book. I found the storyline did not flow and was difficult to read. I strongly suggest taking advantage of the free preview feature before putting out any money on this book.

All of the characters are only identified by nicknames. The main character seems to have no reason for joining the Legion. The book reads like a video game. Action and a quick cut scene. Very disappointing. Will not read the rest of the series.
