Dr. Lukas Bower is the temporary director at Knolls Community Hospital, but he's a doctor first. As an E.R. surgeon he took a solemn oath to put his patients' needs ahead of anyone else's—his own, the insurance companies' or the hospital's. Yet now the future of the small-town medical center hangs in the balance because of one powerful, vindictive man. And Lukas's faith, as necessary to him as air, becomes a barrier between himself and Dr. Mercy Richmond, a beautiful single mother who can't forgive him. But when a suspicious fire destroys the hospital, all their futures—and their faith—will be tested.

Wonderful to keep reading this #2 of the ER Trilogy. I appreciate the fast-paced events from the Emergency Room, and the Christian themes, but also the authors diving into the workings of the health care system. As a fellow health-care provider, and Christian, I can personally relate to many of the same issues.
Solemn Oath was a perfect name for this book. Dr. Lucas Bower sleeps less each shift in the ER. As temporary director of Knolls Community Emergency Department at the hospital, his faith in God and his dedication to his patients proved he was worthy of the job. The overload of patients was becoming more than one doctor could deal with and "Cowboy" the town's lover of exotic animals, and "Buck", Knolls Community's main fireman's injuries only added to his burden of patients and drama. Dr. Mercy Richmond and her daughter play a large roll in Dr. Bower's life and only at the fire do they discover what direction their relationship will go. There is heartbreak, laughter, suspense, and ER situations most people never would experience. Great characters!!
I am so impressed! I read the first in the series, Sacred Trust, and fell in love. Well, Hannah Alexander has done it again! This is a wonderful work of fiction!
