I have never read a mystery written in this format, but I can certainly understand the appeal for the author to write this story in the way he did. In this story, a radio station decides to do a series of podcasts about a 25 year old mystery involving an up and coming singer in her late teens who disappears one night. Was she murdered? Did she simply decide on a different path? The police have found nothing. Along the way the reader is entangled in a web of intrigue, jealousy and a surprising amount of manipulation from various angles. One can not help but try to figure out what happened to this talented musician and why has it taken so long to find the answers. This one will keep you interested and anxious.
Solving Cadence Moore is the story of a mysterious and unsolved murder and the great lengths that a radio show host will go to figure out what happened. The story unfolds through a series of interviews and conversations with people involved in the case, and the reader learns about Cadence Moore, her family, friends, and backstory through a serial podcast, which promises to culminate in the solving of the case. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The story was filled with unexpected plot twists and complicated relationships where friends become adversaries and collaboration devolves into backstabbing and betrayal. The format of the story makes the reader feel like they are one of the listeners to the podcast. The author effectively builds suspense and anticipation, which keeps you engaged through the final few pages of the book where everything is revealed. The smart yet colorful writing showcases the unique personalities and foibles of the different characters. The protagonist, Charlie Marx, is reckless and crass but also charming and full of heart. I found myself rooting for him to succeed. You know it’s a good story when you cannot predict how it will end---that was definitely the case here.
