I truly love this series. If you have read any of Deborah’s other series or genres, it is amazing how different they are and how different her style of writing is with F5 versus her historical, for example.  Such a diverse author. Out of all the series I have read of her’s, this is definitely my absolute favorite series. Cassie is a character that I’ve been curious about ever since book one when she kept trying to seduce Ty. And when she got her tattoo how skeptical she was that she would ever find love made her more interesting. I wondered what type of guy would she fall for and Reid definitely stands out in the crowd. What starts out as a one-weekend stand, while she is back in her small hometown, definitely has sparks flying from the get go. It gives a glimpse into the type of people who are so ok with one-night stands and who seek out short term hookups. These two are definitely like that but they still come together naturally and the book spans months. She had her work cut out for her in trying to win him over and there were a few times I was not so sure she would succeed. When she finds out about his ex, her response was perfect!!  Her dark secret that she ends up revealing to Reid on the way to the airport to head back to NYC was shocking but his response was great and it was the first moment when I thought they just might work out. Loved every second. Loved that they took their time. Loved that the book had plenty of passion and romance and emotional tension and just great plot elements that came together to create a great story. Loved also getting to witness Kyle and Lauren’s wedding, which was so beautiful. Just. Plain. Loved. It.

This was an entertaining, well-written contemporary romance. Cassie's life is going great. She doesn't really want to go back to her hometown, but her oldest friend asks her to be a godmother to her new baby so Cassie agrees to go home for a weekend. Reid has lived a life making his own luck through hard work. When Cassie and Reid see each other again they decide to have a weekend fling. At the end of the weekend Cassie realizes she wants more but Reid is sure he's not the man she wants him to be. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of the Flatiron Five series with inter-related characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more book in the series as well as other books by this author.

This review is of Some Guys Have All the Luck by Deborah Cooke. Note: this review contains spoilers! Reid Jackson doesn’t believe in luck. His father used to beat him. During the college football game when the NFL scouts were watching him, he was tackled by the other team and ended up having both knees replaced. He got a settlement and finished his college degree then went home to Montrose River and bought the small grocery store where he had worked. Then he bought the hardware store and a house big enough for 10 people. But none of that was luck. It was hard work. Just about everything he had done in his life has been a negotiation including one night stands. If you don’t commit to someone, they can’t abandon you. They can’t lie about loving you. There’s just one girl he dreams about: the one from high school he couldn’t even talk to. Cassie Wilson. Cassie has just about everything. She loves her job at Flatiron 5, loves her partners, loves her freedom. What she doesn’t love is Montrose River. She swore she would never go back, but her best friend asked her to to be the godmother of her little girl Emily. Cassie can’t refuse. What she doesn’t expect is Reid Jackson. Or that he owns half of the town. Or that she would fall so fast or so hard. Or that he would protect her and cherish her. But both Reid and Cassie have secrets. Secrets they are both not willing to share until the right negotiations come along. Will the secrets destroy them or create one final negotiation? You will have to read this to find out! I loved the characters and how the story line developed. Flatiron 5 sounds fascinating! Now I have to read the rest of the books in the series!

Well rounded, complex characters, intriguing storyline & scorching heat! Cassie Wilson reluctantly returns to her hometown of Montrose River for a christening, but the bad memories she left behind threaten to overwhelm her. When she reconnects with “bad boy” Reid Jackson, their chemistry is instantaneous and scalding hot. Both initially agreeing to a friends with benefits relationship limited to the long weekend, little by little they begin to reveal themselves to each other, and intense feelings soon follow. As always, Ms. Cooke gives us well rounded, complex characters, an intriguing storyline which builds slowly, and scorching heat! Loved this book! *A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.*

Hot steamy sexy romance of two former high school classmates who were attracted to each other but with immature perceptions kept each other from acting on it. This story has so much wisdom, seeing another perspective and forgiveness that at times brought me to good tears with it's sensitive writing. Cassie Wilson fled her hometown of Montrose River as soon as she could. She's only home because her best friend wants her to be Godmother to daughter Emily. Cassie hopes to be a positive influence on Emily to show her how to dream big and see beyond small town. She has no relationship with her sister Ally or her Mom & Dad. Cassie is the only woman in the Flatiron Five partnership holding the marketing position. She loves Manhattan and her job. Reid Jackson is the kid from the wrong side of the tracks existing under the thumb of an abusing alcoholic father The town sees him as bad news. He discovers he has football talent and as quarterback got a college scholarship. NFL scouts were noticing and then a play goes wrong blowing both of his knees. He finishes college with a business degree and goes home to Montrose River now that his Dad died, and uses the settlement money to build a life and help the town. He's such a misunderstood good man. I fell in love with his quiet way of giving others a leg up. He and Cassie end up having a weekend fling planning to walk away from each other at the end of the weekend. Along the way, Reid shows Cassie there's a different way of looking at life and Cassie worms her way into his very hardened disillusioned heart. Small towns have so many secrets even though everyone knows what everyone is doing. Deborah has a way of crafting a story that makes you think and tugs at your emotions. I fell in love with these characters and wanted so much for them to reach out and claim what could be if they could heal, forgive and trust. Yay, another winner Deborah. Thank you for the opportunity to review this story for you.

4.25 stars--SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK is the fourth instalment in Deborah Cooke’s contemporary, adult FLATIRON FIVE erotic, romance series focusing on five friends-owners and proprietors of the exclusive Manhattan fitness club Flatiron Five-Tyler, Kyle, Damon, Cassie, and Theo. This is Cassie Wilson, and businessman Reid Jackson’s story line. SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Told from dual third person perspectives (Cassie and Reid) SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK follows Cassie Wilson as she returns to her hometown of Montrose River, Illinois, for a family christening. Fifteen years in New York, as the co-owner of the prestigious fitness club Flatiron Five, wasn’t long enough away from a town that held too many bad memories of a time long ago but Cassie promised her cousin Nick that she would be godmother to his daughter Emily. A quick run into the local Shop’n Save found Cassie face to face with the resident bad boy, Reid Jackson, a man who stirred something in Cassie she had long forgotten and didn’t want to remember. With neither one looking for anything permanent Cassie and Reid embark on a weekend fling that turns into something more. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Cassie and Reid as our couple struggle to come to terms with the demons from the past, secrets revealed, and moving towards a happily ever after. SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK focuses on the small-town mentality where memories are long, gossip reigns, secrets and lies destroyed reputations and lives. Reid Jackson struggled to survive in a world of poverty and abuse growing up with an alcoholic father who wasn’t afraid to use his fists. Believing ‘like father, like son’ to be a self-fulfilling prophecy Reid doesn’t do relationships but focuses his efforts on helping the people of the town who despise him the most. Cassie Wilson hasn’t returned home in close to fifteen years, to the town that all but destroyed her heart and her soul. Too many ghosts from the past, and the constant battle with her sister and mom, push Cassie to her limits ensuring no more visits to Montrose, Illinois. Old habits die hard, but the truth will free our story line couple. The relationship between Cassie and Reid is one of insta-lust but neither one is willing to commit to more than today. Reid believes he is unworthy of love; and Cassie struggles to remain independent and alone. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and provocative with some light D/s scenarios. All of the Flatiron Five owners play secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Cassie’s extended family; and byway of reflection and memories, we are introduced to Cassie’s Uncle Marty, a man who guided and mentored Reid Jackson into the man he would one day become. SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK follows several intersecting and inter-related paths between the present and the past that have directly or indirectly affected our story line couple. Meddling friends and family continue to play matchmaker in the hopes of a happily ever after for Reid and Cassie, a happily ever after meant with somebody else. The premise is heart breaking, emotional and entertaining; the characters are broken, animated and embittered; the romance is sensual, spicy and hot. SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK is a raw, gritty and sensitive story where, ala Thomas Wolfe, it’s best not to go home

Cassie is in her hometown Montrose River just for a weekend and doesn’t really expect it to be exciting. That is still she meets Reid Jackson, and connects instantly. Reid liked Cassie when they were kids but didn’t do anything about it then. Now he has been given a second chance. Reid has a one night only rule, but with Cassie one turns to two and it still leave him wanting more. Some guys have all the luck is a wonderful read. The characters are well written and have depth. I liked the way their issues were dealt with by the author. I have been looking forward to Cassie’s story since I read Simply Irresistible and the wait was so worth it. Reid is the perfect hero for Cassie. Can’t wait to see the author has in store for Theo.
