She was the good girl who never broke the rules
When Joe finds his childhood sweetheart, Bailey Jones, has returned to Ryker Falls, his life suddenly shifts from settled to off-center. Once they'd been closer than anyone ever guessed; now, they're chilly strangers. But Joe's not letting his stubborn, sexy-as-hell ex-bestfriend stay closed off. He lost her once through his own stupidity this time she's not getting away. Joe knows he doesn't deserve a second chance, but he's never played by the rules before so he's not starting now. Game on.
About the Author
Wendy Vella is a lover of all things romantic, and with a voracious appetite for reading across all romance genre's, she eventually settled on the Regency era to begin her writing career. She penned her first novel at eighteen though she says it will never make an appearance further than the closet in which it currently resides.
After having her two children, she then joined Romance Writers of New Zealand and started honing her chosen craft by entering competitions with some success and attending conferences, until eventually, she was ready to publish her first novel.
With several of her Regency historical novels reaching bestseller status on Amazon, she has recently moved into contemporary romance. Her first series is set in Oregon in the fictional town of Lake Howling, and she has enjoyed the change of genre immensely, though is quick to add that she will still be writing historical, as the colorful and sometimes turbulent waters of Regency London are still her first love.
Wendy is a sucker for a happy ending, having secured her own. She has been married to her own dark, brooding hero for 30 years and shares her home with two wonderful children, two dogs and anyone else who happens to be visiting at the time. Born and raised in a rural area in the North Island of New Zealand, Wendy loves the beaches and lush green rolling hills of her homeland and is proud to call herself a very patriotic Kiwi!

My familiarity with Ms. Vella's historical works made me a bit apprehensive about her contemporary works. In my mind I thought separating regency from modern day would prove difficult, but Somebody to Love was a pleasant surprise. In fact I think I love her contemporary work more. When the teenage bad boy matures into the man with a plan, the once stable footing of young love becomes topsy turvy. Can the girl that lost her way, find home in the arms of her first love? Bailey and Joe are true to live examples of sentiment and second chance. A poem composed with the heart as it's captive audience.
First off, let me say that I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. That being said, I can honestly say that I enjoyed this book very much. As usual Miss Vella has written a quality story with well-rounded characters. The story progression is smooth and detailed and you can easily picture the town of Ryker Falls and its cast of characters. The threat of danger in the story adds to the suspense and makes it more than just a romance. Joe and Bailey are a terrific couple and I can't wait to find out who will be featured in the next story in the series. There is so much potential for romance here! I'm looking forward to more stories in this series!
Somebody To Love by Wendy Vella is a phenomenal story. Ms. Vella has delivered a well-written book and populated it with amazing, lovable characters. Bailey is a world famous pianist. After an accident, she gives it up and travels until she ends up in Ryker Falls, the town of her childhood. Joe was Bailey's best friend but when she left town he acted out and has spent years cleaning up his reputation. Their story is full of drama, action, suspense and sizzle. This book hooked me at page one and held me captive till the end. I loved reading Somebody To Love and look forward to reading more from Wendy Vella in the future. Somebody To Love is book 1 of the Ryker Falls Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete story, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy. This was not really a second chance romance as Bailey and Joe were friends and didn't really have a romance when they were 13 and 16 years old. I loved how they both helped each other through three years of terrible home lives, and were devastated when Bailey's mother moved away from town. I was kind of upset with Joe that he would ignore Bailey's letters and later go to one of her concerts and not even try to connect with her. Bailey really let him off way to easy for that and forgave him pretty quickly. I loved the reaction of Joe's family and friends when they found out what a pivotal part Bailey played in his life and getting him to bring their Aunt Jess into their lives. Along with the romance, there is the mystery of the attacks on Bailey and Jack, and I really did not see the people responsible for that at all! That was a shocker to me!! I sure hope that there are some more stories coming from Ryker Falls as Joe's brothers, Fin, Maggie, and Clark all need to find romance in their lives!! This was a great start to a new series.
