"Someday" becomes "today" for a sea gull who hopes to acquire a boat. Together with his new animal friends, Gull buys, launches, and sails the boat he calls "Someday". Though they get lost, they are found and towed home by a big ship. Not all the sailors (including Gull, Crow, Raccoon, Dog, and Pig) have the same sense of adventure and like the same things, but they all work together to help one another expand their horizons. Perky watercolor paintings with expressive characters embellish every page, breezily moving the story along. Although beginning readers will find the text a challenge, those with some skills and confidence will enjoy the lighthearted story and perhaps even pick up on the theme that "now is a good time to do what you want."
