I accidently found this man's website over a year ago, and his story intrigued me. I now consider him a friend (thanks to facebook haha). I've read his book and it is very inspiring! I too have Cerebral Palsy and can relate to having physical therapy and other similar struggles that he talks about. He has proved that anyone can do anything they set their mind to, and I now believe I can overcome my CP too. Just like John!

In what amounts to a tell-all-expose John Quinn describes his life for us all to read about... and what a story! Growing up a cop's son in Detroit, Quinn was one of three of seven siblings that were born with a medical disorder - in his case cerebral palsy. His parents treated John and his affliction like a normal kid. His Dad knew life would be hard and so gave John the mental tools to deal with his future. Quinn wrestled his way through high school while wrestling on how to fulfill his dream of joining the Navy. He never won a wresting match and flunked his first attempt at the military's physical but this never-say-die character took life as it came at him, shook it off and found a way to dig deep and conquer his fears and physical inabilities. Fourteen years later, after serving on board a battleship and working out with the elite Navy SEALS Quinn finally retired and not until writing this book did he ever tell anyone in the Navy that he suffered from cerebral palsy. That's right, he hid his disability from the Navy, toughed it out and became an exemplary sailor and human being. Are you having a tough day, work getting you down? Have a read of John Quinn's "Someone Like Me' and get over yourself!

Read this book and be inspired! I cannot say enough about this man's incredible life story. A true account of overcoming adversity and living the dream. The lessons, the victories, and the rewards combine for a happy ending, and give the reader the pleasure of just plain feeling good, not to mention hope for triumph over any challenge that he or she may encounter.

I have had clients young and old ask me to pick his book up for them or if I would read it to them.. I would like to say John you are someone to remember, you're one very inspirational and unique person and you will be an inspiration to anyone who comes across your path or reads your book. I just finished reading this book a couple of hours ago, and I am so glad to have read John's journey dealing with CP. I think it is truly amazing that he was able to keep his condition a secret so that he make his life-long dream a reality. I, like John, also have CP and to know that someone else overcame it against all odds is truly remarkable. I am so thankful that he shared his story for all the world to read. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will not regret it. Bravo, John!

As a friend said to me about my current battle with cancer "You are testimony that a Battleship sailor is special and can take a great deal of punishment but yet continue to successfully engage the enemy." It is truly an honor to call to Shipmate and i am proud to have sailed with you. Eddie E. Nikolas LT, USN, Ret
