Something like Voodoo by Rebecca Hamilton

High School can be a witch. A teen girl with the ability to predict deaths through her drawings shouldn't need to lie constantly to make her life sound interesting. But that doesn't stop Emily from spinning stories faster than she can keep up. After transferring to a new school, Emily's 'dull' life is shaken by the appearance of a boy who seems unfazed by her far-fetched stories. A too-handsome-for-his-own-good senior, Noah has some secrets of his own. He needs Emily's special gift to save him from Sarah, queen bee of the school's It Girls, whose own supernatural abilities have forced him into a life of silence and solitude. But when Emily tries to free him from Sarah's voodoo curse, things go belly up, landing Emily on Sarah's hit list. Soon, Emily and Noah are on a collision course with the It Girls, leading to a shocking revelation that ties them together in unimaginable ways. If their powers remain unchecked, this teenage popularity contest could spell the death of them all ... Romantically charged and eerily chilling, Something Like Voodoo weighs the choice of saving your life versus fighting for a life worth saving. This paranormal romance will put a spell on you.

High School & Voodoo Great story that throws a lot of punches at you some you see coming and some blindside you, the fact that the characters are so believable that they could be sitting along side you as they submerge you into the story The ending was like WAIT UP WHAT it can't end on that note, the next book should be interesting

This is by far, Hamilton’s best work, and that’s saying something. I loved every page, and devoured this novel in one day. Seeing it end was like being forced to watch a good friend walk away. Get ready for symptoms of a serious book hangover. Something Like Voodoo is about a young girl, Emily, with a very unique ability. She can tell when people are about to die. Despite having such a spectacular ability, her life seems pretty dull. Let me just take a moment to gush about Emily. Loved everything about her. YA heroines tend to be written very much to formula. They’re beautiful, but plain. Clumsy, but super skilled in some unrealistic way. Not Emily, she feels SO real. A breath of fresh air in an overworked genre. Anyway, she moves to a new town in the wake of tragedy. Enter Noah, another character you will fall in love with. I loved their chemistry. I even loved how one of the side characters tried to convince Emily to stay away from Noah. It added to the realism of the story. I don’t remember being bored a single second while reading this. Action packed, wildly entertaining, and full of just enough sweet romance, Something Like Voodoo will leave you spelled.

Romantic adventure with a magical twist that has you page turning like there is no tomorrow! Voodoo rights and grudges that go all the way back to the Salem witch trials make for a dangerous and heart pounding riddle. This Paranormal Romantic Journey sets high school drama on its ear and makes you long for the days when fashion was the worst worry you had. Emily struggles with a gift (or curse) that she has had all her life and is not quite sure what to make of it let alone how to help anyone with it. In walks Noah needing help in the worst possible way. Suddenly hiding out in the shadows till graduation is no longer the plan. Sparks fly as these two try to make it through high school not only alive but hopefully in control of their future.

Will Emily be able to save Noah?! Emily Bishop has a secret, her drawings predict death. After the death of her mother, she and her father moved to Hackensack for a new start. She runs into Noah on her first day of school and straight away, you can see that there is a connection between them. I found the story line intriguing and the mystery that surrounds Noah just drew me in. Emily starts to piece it all together despite the odds against her. I would describe this as a YA paranormal mystery and it is a relatively easy read. I received this as an ARC which I have voluntarily read, however, I have now purchased my copy on Amazon AU.

Romance, secrets and suspense. It's all here in this wonderfully written story of a young woman in a new school and all the problems that occur. But this story is more than your regular high school romance. With magic involved, anything can happen. Rebecca Hamilton's writing brings you off your comfortable couch and into a magical world where you can immerse yourself into the story and get to know everyone involved. I highly recommend this book and I know you will enjoy it just as much as I did.

An awesome read for teens and Young Adults. I even enjoyed it myself and I am way past that age! This is a great fast moving story that doesn't allow you a chance to get bored. Written simply with a plot that twist and turns and throws all kinds of roadblocks to the ending, including the ending. Emily has her own issues and may not be the best person to try and figure out this mystery. In the process of figuring out what is going on with Noah she may lose the only friend she has. Plenty of intrigue and excitement from start to finish. Great read.

Something Like Voodoo is a story about a young girl who moves to Hackensack with her father after the death of her mother. Since she was young, she would draw pictures of people and those people would die. It happened to her before her mom died. Now she is drawing one of a boy in school, a boy that she really likes and also a boy the most popular girl in school likes. I was sucked in from the moment I started reading.

"Something Like Voodoo is wonderfully CLEVER and EVOCATIVE. The plot is layered with ancestor curses, ancient magic and believable YA angst that had me remembering true magic...the kind that comes when you find your first love." ★★★★★ - USA Today bestselling Harlequin author, Debbie Herbert

Something Like Voodoo is sure to be a hit! It tells the tale of a girl named Emily who has a unique ability to predict people’s deaths. She also has a horrible problem with stretching the truth due to a complicated and painful past. But when she meets gorgeous Noah and discovers his secrets, she becomes the “It” girls target. THIS is why I loved this novel. It was like Mean Girls and The Craft had a baby. I loved reading this novel and did it in less than a day. The characters were amazing, the story fast-paced, the plot superb! Hamilton nailed the YA genre. I look forward to reading more of her work!

This was a very gripping book. I didn't want to put it down. I love stories where the main character has to fight for themselves and their closest while learning who they are. I love stories about the Bishops. This was just awesome! I can't wait for more!

Another excellent read coming from Becca Hamilton´s pen. Emily´s special abilities might be considered both gift and a curse. Being haunted by her drawing trances all her life, she was running from one place to another. After her mother´s death, however, her life became even worse. Moving to Hackensack, she hoped for ordinary peaceful life... but she could not be more wrong. This book is a gem. Fast-paced, smoothly developing, action-packed, full of suspense, tension and cruelty. Well balanced with romance, tried and shattered several times, opposing the dangers from the outside, but still developing. And I sooo loved the characters. Emily is unlike any character I have ever read of, with her many vices and well-awareness of them, but using them anyway for an excuse of greater good. She is stubbornly following her goals, trying to protect those she loves, though not always successfully. Noah is the kind of protagonist you could not resist to feel for and pity him. He is kind and loving, but deeply in trouble, scarred more on the inside. And Sarah´s cruelty is infinite, creative and harming. They are all very believable and realistic, acting on their own opinions and motives. Overall, awesome and quick read I would recommend to any fantasy and PNR fan!
