Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status . . . and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader. In Son of Hamas, Mosab Yousef—now called “Joseph”—reveals new information about the world’s most dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth about his own role, his agonizing separation from family and homeland, the dangerous decision to make his newfound faith public, and his belief that the Christian mandate to “love your enemies” is the only way to peace in the Middle East.

I really enjoyed this autobiography. We rarely hear about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from the "bad guys." Yousef reveals the humanity and good inside the man who he profoundly respects yet is targeted as a top terrorist threat. It is astonishing to go deep into the conflict itself as well, and learn that even Hamas' top leaders are not in control of the decision and path of their organization. Yousef makes it clear several times that Hamas is a movement, an idea, an initiate to avenge what his people felt they had lost.Every page is truly filled with suspense, especially with through such a unique perspective. It is equally interesting to track Yousef's own personal transition into Christianity as he finds his own values after being a devout Muslim throughout his childhood and under his father. What is most surprising is that he had never felt any anger towards the god of the Qur'an until he first decided to open up the New Testament. This is definitely a must read! Perhaps these words will lead to more understanding of the conflict from other nations and peoples that will help pave the way to peace.
