Imagine a m/m romance set on one of the lawess outer planets in Firefly. That's the mood & tenor of this book which also has shades of Deadwood. Much of the book felt familar as I am a long-time western fan. The fantasy elements are subtle & well-used. Sexton is my favorite m/m writer. My personal tastes prefer her contemporaries (promises is my alltime fav m/m romance); however this converted me to this subgenre and i eagerly await the next in the series.

I loved the book, the world that she created and the characters that she peopled it with. I loved it so much that as soon as I finished it, I read it again. This is a book that I will be reading and reading again for years because the pairings works, but most importantly, they work within the scope of the world of Oestend, a world that echoes both the Australian Outback and the open Plains of the USA's west. The BDSM is totally believable between the characters, not just a decorative add-on, and the characters themselves have depth and are believable. Read it, you won't regret it.

I've written most of everything this author has published, but by in large, since Promises (her first, and in my opinion best book!) I've found most of it to be well-written and absolutely average. This book was none of that. It's a fascinating mix of sci-fi, romance, western, and keep you on the edge of your seat blockbuster movie. It's absolutely worth every penny. If you're in doubt, pick this novel up!

I absolutely love this book! The characters are well rounded and perfect for one another. The world the book is set in felt vivid and real and the fantasy element was done to perfection. I'm about to buy a copy of this in paperback too!
