What a powerful story! Before this book I had never read a book about Vietnam or the war (I'm not a fan of war stories) but this book just captured me and wouldn't let go. Loi is my hero, she defined tradition to get something she wanted and needed, to find her American father and the marry the man of her dreams. Joe will make you laugh Loi and Khai will make you cry (in a good way), and an ending that will catch you by suprise. If you want to read a truly heartwarming story with a romantic twist read Song of the Buffalo Boy, it will make you laugh, cry and do it all over again.

A remarkable story of love in the face of bi-racial prejudice.

I have lived in Vietnam for over 15 years (I'm Vietnamese). I have never thought that there is a book about Vietnam written by a foreigner. Of course the story in the book happened long time ago and many things has changed since then. I feel so proud of my country to have such people like Loi, Khai and Joe. This book is a must-read.

Have you ever wondered how it was for children with American fathers but lived in Vietnam? Well here is a story of a young girl you won¿t forget who fought her way through the ignorance and found her true self in this heroic story. The heroine of our story is Loi. All her life Loi has been tagged a con-loi or half-breed. The only one who seems to accept her is her beloved Buffalo Boy, Khai. He is the only one who accepts her strangely round eyes or her dangling curls, and also stands up for her when villagers call her the crude name con-loi. Then Loi gets the dream that comes only once in a lifetime for people like her, a chance to leave all her worries and the name-callers behind and leave for America, where she can find her father. Will she choose to go to America and live the life that she could have had? Or leave the only life she ever knew, her beloved Khai and mother? Loi faces these choices and in her own way triumphs. Read Song of the Buffalo Boy, a read you will never forget, about a girl who was faced with a choice and conquered.

Omg! the book was soooooooooooo good! I am a vietnamese girl myself and I came to appreciate Vietnam more. I wasn't born there. I was born in New London, Connecticut. My parents were born in Saigon and after reading the book, it changed how I look at the place. I live here in the good ol' Los Angeles, California. Sherry Garland is the best author out there! She showed me what its really like living there and how the people there felt. It gives a good picture of how the places are like and what people do. I totally cried at the end of the book! Sherry Garland is the best of the best!

This book was the best book I've read in a long time.It was one of those books where you feel like you're involved or watching what's happening.Besides,it was interesting b/c I found it in a small library or shelf at the Kumo math & reading center. It had a little Veitnamese in it so that's what hooked me.cause I new some of the words. It may not seem interesting at first, but then when I started to read it,it was heart touching.
