KEPT ME IN SUSPENSE!!! I just finished reading Songbird Under a German Moon by Tricia Goyer within 2 days! It's such a great book to read. If you like to be in suspense while hearing a love story then you should read this book! Songbird Under a german Moon is about a young woman named Betty Lake who arrived at Bayreuth,Germany after WW2 to sing/entertain the U.S. troops who are currently occupying post-Hitler Germany. Her first performance is a hit and she is praised for her beautiful voice. She also attracts the attention of Frank Witt, a U.S. Army Air Corps combat photographer. But before they can start their romance, her roomate,Kat, goes missing. Everyone concludes that she committed suicide but to both Betty and Frank it seemed like it was murder. So, it's up to both the lovebirds to help solve the mystery. Will Betty and Frank have a chance to let their romance sing? Who killed Kat and why? The truth is revealed under

Thanks to Summerside Press for a review copy of this book. I love the way Tricia Goyer helps me learn about history as she sweeps me into her intriguing stories; this one's set in 1945 after World War II is over. I immediately care about the main characters Songbird, alias Betty Lake, a singer for the occupied troops in Germany, and Frank Witt, a combat photographer, who meet on a plane ride to their new assignments. Tricia Goyer shows the aftermath and destruction of a city and pulse of the community through these character's eyes. Loved it!! Betty is thrilled about this opportunity, but Frank thinks there's been a mistake on his assignment. He takes pictures of combat scenes, not show girls. Although, when he learns that Betty is in the show, his attitude starts to soften. He needs to win Betty's cooperation in order for them to work together to solve a mystery, in the hopes of saving thousands of lives. I was fascinated by the setting of this book. I wondered if these places were real, what they looked like; so I googled them and here's what I discovered. Beautiful pictures of Festspielhaus in Bayreuth showed up on the web. It's a real theater built specifically for operas by composer Richard Wagner. He also constructed a home nearby called Villa Wahnfried-where the USO singers in Tricia Goyer's story stayed. I googled Richard Wagner and discovered some scary stuff the author refers to in this book about Hitler drawing inspiration from this composer's music. Tricia doesn't bog you down with an overwhelming amount of historical facts, but alludes to them through the characters and what people were concerned about back then after Hitler's death. This is not the first book by Tricia Goyer I've enjoyed and learned from. Thanks Tricia, for your help in learning about another part of history. Thanks for a special story that has two real people caught in a whirlwind, doing the best they can to trust in God at a time when no one could trust anyone. It was a time of recovery for a country and its people. After reading this, I'm ready to read another book by Tricia, you will too. Nora St.Laurent The Book Club Network Finding Hope Through Fiction

Tricia Goyer's extensive research into the World War II era, including many firsthand accounts from WWII vets, shows in every book she's written about this time. Songbird Under a German Moon is no exception. Betty, Frank, and all the other characters in this book are real, fun, and I got to the end of the book feeling as though I'd made a slew of new friends. Of course, the intrigue and mystery always capture my attention, and that did not disappoint in this latest story from this author. A truly enjoyable read.

Songbird Under a German Moon by Tricia Goyer is a fast-paced historical mystery set in Germany in the days after World War II. Betty Lake arrives in Bayreuth, Germany to perform in a USO tour. She's thrilled to be singing in such a prestigious theater, one that was designed by Wagner, but her excitement quickly turns to fear when her roommate mysteriously dies, and Betty is certain that the label of suicide is wrong. Army photographer and undercover spy, Frank Witt not only believes her, but is falling under the spell of her beautiful looks and song. The couple must put aside their own fears and work together to discover the truth before someone else dies. While not up to the standard of Goyer's other work, this is still a great read. The look behind the scenes at the USO as well as the political climate in post-war Germany is compelling. The mystery itself is a bit obvious and the machinery for it creaks in spots. That said, I wouldn't mind at all if Betty and Frank decided to team up again and continue solving mysteries while serving in the military.

Under the historical fiction genre and set in the post-war era of World War II, Tricia Goyer has molded a story that kept my attention from the very beginning. I did not want to put Songbird Under a German Moon down. The very beginning of the story starts out with a bit of action as Betty is on an airplane, headed into the heart of Germany, but not sure if her plane is going to land safely. Once off the plane, she meets handsome combat photographer, Frank Witt. As she begins her adventure of singing with the USO for the soldiers in the famous Festspielhaus, mysteries begin to abound, especially with her stay in a mansion that Hitler once stayed in. The story gave me goosebumps in certain parts, just thinking about what evil must have remained in post-war Germany after such a leader as Hitler. As stories unravel, danger seems to abound....even though the war is over and the commanding officers who were once under the lead of the Fuhrer are behind bars. This story is a story of both suspense and romance. I can't help but love it, as it is in an era of time that I love reading about and just can't get enough of. You can purchase Songbird Under a German Moon for $9.35 from Barnes & Noble. You can read more reviews on Litfuse. (Disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book, free of charge, by Litfuse, for the purposes of review on my blog.)

Did you hear it? That sigh of contentment of another 5 star Tricia Goyer book read (devoured more like it). Once again Tricia Goyer has written a novel that just makes you sigh with contentment. A wonderful book filled with suspense and tension. And love blooming in a war torn German city. Betty Lake travels to a war torn Germany to perform with the USO, a small town girl who got her start singing in the church choir, Betty is sure that this is the fulfillment of her dreams. However all was not smooth sailing so to speak, it seemed that from the very flight over, things were bumpy in Betty's life. Finding herself falling for a handsome soldier/photographer, and enjoying her role in the USO show, Betty is pretty sure things are looking up, only to find our her roommates husband died in an accident and then she was found floating in a nearby pond. The MP's are positive it is suicide, but Betty just cannot believe that Kat would take her own life. A mystery to be solved, for sure! Trying to keep safe, but to also figure out what has happened Betty keeps her eyes, and ears open. Most definitely a book you do not want to miss, Tricia Goyer has given us a 5 star hit!! $12.99 US 334 pages 5 stars This book was provided for review purposes only, no payment was recieved for this review.

Having really enjoyed the Love Inspired series by Summerside Press I was really excited to read Songbird Under a German Moon, one of the first releases in their new suspense line. So far I have not been disappointed. While I was a little frustrated with the lack of romantic interaction between USO singer Betty Lake and U.S. Army Air Corps photographer, Frank Witt. I did enjoy the mystery even though I knew "whodunit" right from the start. I really loved the setting of war torn Germany as I don't think I've ever read a novel set in post-Hitler Germany. I liked Betty and Frank but I didn't connect with any of the other characters which is fine if this is a stand alone book. Overall it was a good story but I definitely think Tricia's Collaboration with Mike Yorkey on The Swiss Courier is the book to read for a more fleshed out suspense. If you enjoy an entertaining, light, romance with a different setting this may be something that you would like to read. I'm really pleased with Summerside Press's releases and look forward to reading their next release. I received my free review copy from Litfuse publicity group.
