Songs In The Key Of J by Helen Mcnicol

Jess and Stephanie are best friends who share everything, including the big old mansion they live in together. Their different personalities keep conflict at bay, especially when it comes to men. Jess's history with men is cluttered with catastrophe, so much so that she has sworn off them altogether. Stephanie, on the other hand, seems to cruise through life without a care in the world, moving from one relationship to the next.

When Irish band Punch Drunk comes to town, Stephanie finds herself in the middle of a fiery fling with the charming and sophisticated bass player, James. Soon after, Jess finds herself being pursued by the roguish lead singer, Robbie. Hard to resist and eager to win her over, Robbie tries everything to help Jess forget about a past that still haunts her. Knowing that Robbie is the wrong one for her, desperate to be the person she once was, but terrified of having love destroy her, Jess battles with her heart and her mind.

Reviewed by Michelle Stanley for Readers' Favorite Dating a rock musician has its drawbacks, and former model Jesse swore she wouldn’t let her heart be broken by another one. But when she meets Robbie, the lead singer of the band Punch Drunk, her heart sings a different tune. Jesse finds herself having mixed emotions as her attraction deepens, but her former relationship haunts her, so she is reluctant to get serious with anyone. Robbie’s quiet, laid-back personality is comforting to Jesse, but she still has doubts, especially after seeing him with another woman. Her carefree housemate, Stephanie, has no reservations about dating James, a guitarist in the band, and likes the glitzy lifestyle. James is smart, quotes Shakespeare and is passionate. She wants Jesse to be happy, and tries to help her overcome her insecurities, but is Robbie the right man for her best friend? Songs in the Key of J is written by Helen McNicol. If you enjoy romantic novellas, then Songs in the Key of J is a story that you will take pleasure in reading. It is easy to bond with Jesse as her attitude towards relationships are displayed in an unforced manner. Helen McNicol wrote an entertaining book that gave an insider’s view into the celebrity world, showing the pros and cons of dating someone famous. I liked the interesting characters and found this short story nicely developed. Songs in the Key of J also contains the right degree of heated passion that will hold your attention, as the content was not overly explicit.
