Kaito was once a baseball prodigy destined to bring fame and fortune to his family. But that was before a gambling ring forced him to quit his dream. His misfortunes have led him to addiction and petty crime – yet his life is not as insignificant as he thinks.
Two centuries into the future, an AI named Ryuu sets out to discover the origins of his creation. Yet his idealism is ill-suited to the Japan of 2219 – where humans are forgotten, and the robotic Hive Mind rules over all things sentient.
Ryuu's search does not stay secret for long, and he soon finds himself embroiled in an ancient rivalry between two mysterious robots. He must quickly learn that machines, like the humans he mythologizes, rarely keep promises – and serve themselves above all else.
His journey leads him to derelict robotics factories, desolated cities, and automatons that exchange knowledge for a terrible price. Who were the engineers that created him? Why did they base him on a human from long before? What are the disembodied voices he hears?
The truth is buried beneath snow and ruin, and only answers to destruction. Like Kaito, Ryuu must sacrifice all he holds dear to fulfil his destiny.
