I am a first time T.A. Chase reader and decided to pick up Soothe The Burn (STB). STB had an interesting twist to the normal science-fiction type of characters. You have a squadron of men who have titanium flesh, and Alvix, a captain with the ability to manipulate fire in more ways than one. The story is approximately 40,000 words. It isn't much for a novel, which is reason for the story's fast pace. You go from one event to another in the span of pages; months can go by between chapters (it only occurred a couple of times). The story is also told from third-party perspective. It was definitely confusing in the use of pronouns, since most characters are male, and you don't really know who "he" is until you read further on. It really got confusing until you were used to the writing style. Asides from the mentioned flaws, STB was still an enjoyable read. It isn't groundbreaking by any means, but it's a sweet and interesting read that I would recommend.
