2019 Reprint of 1945 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This work is a classic within the Catholic tradition regarding the important of the interior life. Interior life is a life which seeks God in everything, a life of prayer and the practice of living in the presence of God. It connotes intimate, friendly conversation with Him, and a determined focus on internal prayer versus external actions, while these latter are transformed into means of prayer. According to John Paul II, Jesus' statement "without me you can do nothing" (cf. Jn 15:5) is a truth that "constantly reminds us of the primacy of Christ and, in union with him, the primacy of the interior life and of holiness."

I bought this book based on the reviews listed on this site and it did not disappoint. This book is the 'Grandfather' of all books. It will help you and give you a basis to understand what you have to offer and what you can bring to your life. AMAZING. I am much more aware of how God is present in everything I do and how much more so I can unite myself to Him thru my daily life My personal motto is 'Hearts to Prayer and Hands to Work.' This book gives me a better understanding of what I mean by it, and better ways to live it out. My dearest Brothers and Sisters, do yourself a favor and buy this book.

I read Catholic 'spiritual' matter daily, and have for years. I discovered this book by accident a couple of months ago, in a library, and it has changed my life. It is among the best I have ever read. Chautard says nothing you do should be an end in itself, but a means to personal sanctity. Works without an 'interior life' are fruitless. Pray, pray, pray.

If you want to make a difference in the world, read this book. This book teaches that even the greatest projects we do are fruitless if it does not begin with prayer. Without prayer, all our work is activism. When you do the work God has given you, souls come to know him in even the smallest details. If you have a love of souls and you want to lead them to Jesus, read this book.
