Lady Jocelyn, a fierce Norman loyalist, is forced to marry Wulfstan, a Saxon Lord and sorcerer. She mistrusts all Saxons and she has good reasons to harbor such hatred for them. But she has no choice but to marry him. When she learns he has no wish to consummate their marriage, her dreams of having a family of her own slips through her fingers. Taking matters into her own hands, she decides to seduce her husband. Secrets and a prophesy are revealed, and she must choose between her hatred of Saxons and her growing love for Wulfstan. For she’s the key to solving the great prophesy and there are those in the shadows who will stop at nothing to make sure she and Wulfstan don’t solve the prophesy. Will she embrace her role or is it too late? This is the second book in the Novels of Ravenwood series and yet it can read as a standalone. The author fills in the backstory from book one so you won’t get lost with what’s happened before. I found both Jocelyn and Wulfstan prominent characters who take over almost every scene. Their personalities are larger than life and it comes across throughout the story. Each has preconceived notions about the other yet at the same time, each are drawn to the other. The attraction is electric and it was fun to watch them deny each other what is clear to the reader. My favorite parts, though, deal with the historical backdrop and plot. Judith Sterling has researched this time period and draws you in with language, customs and historical events. There were many times I felt transported to medieval England. A sweeping historical romance with paranormal elements, Soul of the Wolf is a must-read, especially for fans of medieval romance. Highly recommend and cannot wait to read the third book in the series. Favorite Character/Quote: “Nor would I have you pound your pestle into my private affairs.” Heat swept through her. “Pray, what affairs have you that are not private?” My Rating: 5 stars
