Soul Survivor is a captivating and well-written prequel to the Spirit Shield Saga fantasy series. Whenever a god engages in the forbidden act of intimacy with a mortal, godlings, half-god and half-mortal, are born. Among the godling siblings, there was a growing undercurrent of distrust and dissension. Helga was jealous. Artio had the sun, the moon, and all the planets, as well as a gorgeous lover to keep her entertained. The golden twins, Caerwys and Alfreda, had dominion over all the souls and every living thing and they were worshiped. Helga, however, was stuck with the dead, and she wasn’t happy about that at all. She had a plan, though. She was going to be powerful, and her godling siblings were not going to like it one bit. Caerwys and Alfreda were concerned, about a greater number of environmental disturbances that were occurring as well as an increased death rate. Caerwys decided to seek the counsel of the great Seer, Calleigh. And although she didn’t have good news for him, he at least knew what he was up against. Of all the pathways that were available to him, none of them were easy or had a happy ending. It was inevitable that in the coming days, people were going to die. To prevent the destruction of mankind and even the gods, Caerwys knew he had to choose the correct path. The Seer told him that he had the answer within him. As Caerwys braced himself for battle, he hoped that the Seer was right. Soul Survivor is an engrossing novel and a fantastic read for fantasy lovers. Susan Faw leads us into a fantasy world in her book “Seer of Souls (The Spirit Shield Saga, Book One).” Who was the Seer of Souls? The truth of the birth of Cayden and Avery was kept a secret for seventeen years. A wizard who knew that secret was alive and imprisoned in the Queen’s castle. The wicked queen wished to capture and execute them because of a well-known Primordial prophesy. Evil spirits hunted Cayden, but his magical powers helped him evade them. Ziona and Sharisha who were Primordial beings were searching for Cayden and Avery to protect them. Cayden volunteered to join the legion to save his father from abuse by a soldier. He had to undergo many hardships but that made him stronger in preparation for his role. Ziona was always at his side. When he made his way to the castle, he was betrayed by one, who he thought was his friend. He was imprisoned, but was fortunate to meet the wizard, who helped him escape, and took him to the Well of Souls. Cayden was shocked to hear the truth about his heritage, which was finally revealed by the wizard. There are many twists and turns before the conclusion of this story.. Susan Faw is an excellent writer and I am sure that her next book will be just as good as this one was. I recommend this book to all who love this genre.
