Overview

2nd Place Winner - 2014 Book of the Year - The Drunken Druid's International Book Award.

Children with extraordinary psychic powers are being used as pawns in a deadly supernatural war. Jasmine "Jazz" Tandy and her nine-year-old son Chaz, who can heal people with his touch, are fleeing from a ruthless organization that kidnaps these children. Children such as Kaylee Daley, who can control and manipulate plant life, and Mara Fleming, who can see into the future. Their only hope for salvation is a covert group called the Guardians, who protect these children from the organization's merciless hunters.

Dr. Larssen Sössnacher, the organization's leader-called "Soulsnatcher" by the remarkable children he abducts and exploits-believes Chaz is the miraculous prodigy who will grant him the immortality he craves... and he'll stop at nothing to get Chaz.

Cody Jackson, a Guardian and martial arts and weapons expert, rescues Jazz and Chaz from Soulsnatcher's hunters and takes them to Homestead, a safe haven where the children learn to use their powers to help others. But Soulsnatcher's hunters raid Homestead and battle the Guardians in a surreal deadly showdown-with the souls of all the children as the ultimate prize.

About the Author

Colleagues and readers alike have dubbed Kerry Alan Denney "The Reality Bender." A multiple award-winning author, Kerry incorporates genre-blending elements of the supernatural, paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror in his novels and short stories. With joy, malicious glee, and a touch of madness, he writes reality-bending thrillers - even when the voices don't compel him to. His protagonists are his children, and he loves them as dearly as he despises his antagonists... even when he has to kill them.

Kerry lives near Stone Mountain, Georgia with his Golden retriever Holly Jolly, a professional Therapy Dog, where he is currently trying his best to remain rooted in this dimension, and writing his next supernatural thriller... and deciding which characters to kill in it.

His post-apocalyptic sic-fi/ horror thriller JAGANNATH was published February 2015. His paranormal thriller DREAMWEAVERS will be published by Juju Mojo Publications late Summer 2015.

Exceptional is exactly what this book is. I rarely read supernatural thrillers, but I took a chance on this one. I'm so glad I did! Soulsnatcher is a novel that transcends genre, going well beyond what a reader would expect of a novel of this type and delving into the basic human need to protect those who are persecuted. Although Soulsnatcher is classified as a supernatural thriller, Denney builds a world that is totally believable and characters that become living, breathing people. An edge-of-the-seat read that I could not put down. Lynda Fitzgerald, Author

Fantasy scifi fans of all ages will enjoy the vivid characters and fast-paced story of "Soulsnatcher." Kerry Denney has expertly woven a memorable, twisted tale that turns reality inside out, in the traditions of H.P. Lovecraft and R.L. Stine. "Soulsnatcher" grabs from the opening sentences and rapidly draws the reader into a shadowy world where innocent children with dangerous secrets must battle ruthless agents of evil. It's a fun, quick read with a thrilling conclusion suitable for both teens and adults.

This was an entertaining read. Plenty of suspense, action and lots of bloodthirsty fights and gore! The story had a satisfying ending even though it is clear the story will continue on. The characters are brought alive for us and it often switches from one character to another, allowing us to hear directly the thoughts and feelings of more than one character. Though the characters in the story develop romantic relationships this story's main focus is not romance but the supernatural and an age old fight of good versus evil.

Mr. Denney has achieved something that I didn't expect. He's pulled me back into the world of sci-fi!. I loved sci-fi in my youth but read mostly thrillers and mysteries now, but Mr. Denney destroys genre stereotypes. If you enjoy a character-driven suspenseful read that pulls you through twists and turns that are totally unexpected, then Soulsnatcher will scratch that itch that you didn't know you had. Bravo, Mr. Denney, you've re-opened my desire to lose myself again in a complex world that has been fully developed in the mind of a masterful writer.

K. Tyler review This was so not what I was expected! However, a wonderfully told story. This is a story about children with psychic powers and the compassion to go with it. This is an action packed page turner. There is a fight between the evil Organization verses the protectors called Guardians. This is more of an action thrill with very little romance and no spanking. That being said, this book is well worth the read.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review via Lovers of the Paranomal Goodreads group by the author. The author of this book brings you into a world of strong willed children, teens, and adults. Some have psychic powers that enable them to do otherworldly things that you wouldn't believe possible. This is an action packed, and emotional ride that you will want to stay on forever. You will find yourself up late at night just wanting to know what happens next, and unable to put the book down. I became a part of this book. I connected with this book on a deeper level than I have with any other book. I thoroughly loved the characters. There were such strong willed characters that I could not help but become part of them, and their crazy life. Through struggles, happiness, and emotional parts; I stuck with this one. I cried tears with the characters of both sadness, and happiness. In the end this book still leaves me baffled with how well it is written. I still want to be with the characters even more. The book ended, and yet I feel I need more of these amazing characters. No cliffhanger, but I still want more, because the book was that good. I recommend this book to mature readers.

Received from LOP (Lovers of the Paranormal) in exchange for honest review. Jazz is a single mother whose son, Chaz, has the ability to heal. Kaylee can make plants grow and Jhin can teleport people. And all of these children are in danger from people wishing to control their special gifts.  In this fast paced science fiction book, we are placed in a world where a hidden battle rages to control children with special powers.  Soulsnatcher is a fast faced read that held my interest and kept me wishing to read more. It's fairly well written and I enjoyed reading about Jazz, Chaz (though not sure about the rhyming names) and Kaylee. The idea of an organisation dedicated to finding and keeping kids with powers safe was a good one and much of what works with this book is down to that and the individual characters of those above.  Unfortunately, once the rescues (failed or not) have been dealt with, this book loses a little bit of lustre. I'm sorry but I just can't see Jazz and Cody's chemistry. The relationship feels underwritten as does Kaylee's relationship. In relation to Cody I just don't really think he has a character. He feels like a shell and the epithet 'Dark Man' seems mildly silly. He works when he rescues but his character isn't strong enough outside of that.  Additionally far too much of the book is dealt with by exposition and a things happening because the writer said so and not because the characters were that dumb.  Would I recommend? Yes. Would I read it twice? Possibly not.

Extremely hard to put down, loved the characters, the action, the suspense, and the clever twists within. This book would make a fantastic graphic novel, comic book series, and animated film.

Kerry Alan Denney is an exciting new author and his first book is awesome! The characters are brought to life by Mr. Denney's prose and the reader quickly becomes personally invested in their plight. By the completion of the story I felt as if the characters, at least the ones with a conscience, were friends! I can't wait till I get to visit with them in the future! Congratulations Mr. Denney, your premier novel is a complete success! I can't wait for more!

I won Soulsnatcher by Kerry Alan Denney in a Goodreads Giveaway. This is a fun fast read about two groups of people (one good and one evil) invested in finding children with extraordinary talents. The evil group wants to use the children for all the wrong reasons while the good group wants to save them and allow them to live their lives as they wish. There are no big surprises in this book - it is a fairly predictable story but it is well written, has good flow and I would recommend it to anyone interested in books of this type.
