Sovereign by E.R. Arroyo

Chemical warfare has obliterated most of the world, including America, and the survivors have turned into feral beasts, save one colony, Antius, the last remnant of civilization. Seventeen-year-old Cori (aka Citizen 1206) only longs for wide open spaces and freedom. But Antius has no use for such things, just mindless drones to serve in a place with walls, fences, and laws. A lot of laws, which Cori constantly breaks. So she's spent years plotting her escape, which is the only thing that will save her from the colony's deranged leader, Nathan. She isn't looking to be a hero, and she certainly isn't looking to fall in love, but she just might do both.

Sovereign is a novel that deals with a question that most young adults grapple with--who am I. Clearly, Cori's question is a little more complicated as she exists in a world she's clearly not from and one that she doesn't easily fit into. She's tougher than a lot of heroines, which only makes the love story in Sovereign that much better. I had a definite soft spot for Dylan, and I think most readers will share in that. I enjoyed getting lost in Arroyo's world and found myself struggling right there with Cori as her world is turned over many times. The novel is engaging and solid, definitely an interesting place to visit, not that I'd want to live there. Still, I'll definitely be looking for the sequel and other works by this author.

At first this book reminded me of hunger games but soon went down a different path altogether. I was pleasently suprised with the authors writing skill (which is sorely lacking in many books today). The story was original and intriguing ... a real page turner! I stayed up late many nights to finish this exciting book! This book is a MUST READ!

This book never stops. I thought it would take me a week or so to read but I devoured the book in only a few days. Can't wait for part 2.

I love to read stories like this one. Love to read about the goods guys winning. I love to read about finding love, happens in a world that is dead. I so can NOT wait to read what happens next.

You won't want to put this book down!! I Love this book.. E.R. Arroyo did such an Amazing job writing this story.. I can't wait to see what happens in The Offering..  I simply love Cori.. She is so strong yet Vulnerable. She doesn't see that so many people love her even though they shouldn't because it could get them killed.. Cori goes through so much trying to escape Antius. I want to say so much but I don't want to leave any spoilers either..  There were a few parts in the book were I was like NOOOO... I was kind of sad when these things Happened. I got a little teary eyed and had to pause for a minute before I could continue reading.  But it made the story so much more realistic because everything was not coming out roses, just as in real life. This book will grab a hold of you and not let go..  Arroyo just got herself a new Fan of her books..
