Purpose: The objective is to clearly define the process for the diagnosis of spasticity, the science behind its pathophysiology, the measurement tools used for evaluation, and the available treatment options.
Audience: It is intended to help guide physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers who provide direct care to patients with spasticity. The chapter authors are leaders in their fields.
Features: Part I is a general overview and part II reviews the assessment tools to accurately document spasticity in a clinical setting. Part III focuses on treatment of spasticity and part IV is devoted to the evaluation and management of individual diseases involving spasticity. The final part looks at basic science and animal models of spasticity.
Assessment: This is the first comprehensive book that I have seen that deals solely with diagnosis and treatment of spasticity. It is well written by leaders in their fields.
