"One would have to believe that this book would be critical for all dentistry students, cranial facial surgeons, and head and neck radiologists…This book is highly recommended for both an individual purchase and a sectional library purchase."

Description: This head and neck imaging book specifically focuses on the temporomandibular joint and its anatomy and related pathology. The accompanying website offers a complete ebook version with interactive graphics.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide background for imaging of the temporomandibular joint by combining knowledge of this complex structure from both medicine and dentistry into one reference. Having both a print and online format is useful for reading the book and simultaneously viewing the images. The book and accompanying website meet the stated objectives.
Audience: The intended audience is all professionals involved in the study of the temporomandibular joint including head and neck physicians, radiologists, dentists, and surgeons. One editor is an oral and maxillofacial radiology consultant and the other is a professor of dental sciences.
Features: Among the topics related to the temporomandibular joint the book discusses are embryology, bone and muscle anatomy, neuroanatomy, congenital disease, and acquired diseases. The book is particularly valuable in providing detailed pictures of the anatomy and development of the temporomandibular joint. A unique feature is the way it provides bullet-point, pertinent data on the tops of most pages with corresponding images below. It tends to stick to this format, making it easy to navigate.
Assessment: I am particularly fond of this book and the way it provides the most important points of each topic at the tops of pages. This leads to fast and focused learning. Compared to other books in this field, this one is very image/photo heavy, which is particularly useful for radiologists.
