Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Janis Flint-Ferguson
This is a colorful, informative picture book detailing the fastest vehicles on land, at sea, and in the air. Each of the three chapters includes a wealth of information regarding various types of transportation and the records associated with them. Beginning with land vehicles, the chapter includes everything from race cars to ice road trucks, to trains, to two wheeled vehicles. The chapter on water transportation includes speed records, wind power, and ocean cruisers. Finally, the chapter on air travel includes pages detailing the fastest travel, the highest, the largest, and the strangest. The chapters are made up of a series of two-page discussions on each specific transportation machine. Each two-page spread includes pictures representing a specific category and information regarding the speed records and statistics for the vehicles. There are explanations and histories included. At the end of the chapters there is a summary statement and resources encouraging further research on the vehicles. The book includes an index and glossary to aid readers and young researchers. The book is part of the "Kingfisher Knowledge" series and is an excellent resource for school libraries. Reviewer: Janis Flint-Ferguson
