The Spell (Big Bad Wolf Series #3) by Heather Killough-Walden, Gildart Jackson

Dannai, who is also known as the Healer, has begun dreaming of werewolves. She'd always been able to hide the fact that she was a dormant, using her magic to shield the sweet, promising scent from the alphas she's been forced to work around. But now that they've invaded her dreams, her world has really been turned upside down. For, though every dormant dreams of her intended mate, Dannai is dreaming of two wolves, not one. And neither one of them is good news. One is a notorious killer. The other is Lucas Caige.

Lucas Caige is a man with a haunting past. A warlock took his brother from him fifty years ago and he's spent his life outrunning that dark magic. But fate has a way of throwing sand in your gears—and just when Caige thought he could forever leave behind the magic that brought pain to his life, his path crosses that of the Healer. Dannai unwittingly casts her spell over him the moment he lays eyes on her. She's stunning, she's kind, and everything about her wreaks havoc on his senses.

She's also magic incarnate.

But if Dannai thinks that's going to stop him from doing everything in his power to make her his mate, the little witch has another thing coming.

Wow. This tale really got my blood flowing. I read this book first and then bought the first two. Now, I see there will be another? What a talented writer to keep me reading past my bedtime and wanting to read more. Thankyou!

The story line was fine. I found she kept repeating herself over and over with the same explainations of events, like she was trying to make the book bigger, but not coming up with new material. I can see maybe explaining a back story line that was from a previous book to catch you up in the beginning. MAYBE again in the middle, but I found she did the same thing over and over within pages of itself. I skimmed through a big section due to it and was disappointed I had to. If the writer took some of that out then the book would be much better. Taking it out would show more confidence in her skills as a story teller and more faith that we readers are following her (and we are :) )I liked the flashes between his and her points of view of events. It made you see how the characters were thinking. All in all nice story and looking forward to the next :)! P/S Nice hang-cliff ending, not over done, just perfect :)!

As a romance novel, this story is full of clichés. The irresistibly handsome hero finds and claims the equally beautiful heroine. One or the other fights against the irresistible draw they feel, but in the end they are fated to be together. This story line isn't just old, it's dried up to dust and blown away. And considering that this is the same theme that Killough has used in several of her ebooks, I'm surprised that she would continue to employ the same tired story line. As for the Supernatural elements of the book. Well, while hardly original, at least this one is put together better than The Hunt. You can at least follow this plotline. the Hunt is a hopeless mish-mash of characters that never makes sense. I'm not a fan of Killough. But before I discovered this, I had already purchased three of her ebooks and I'm determined to slog thru them so they won't be a total waste of money. But I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. There are much better authors out there!

Near the end of "The Spell" I tried to slow down and savor it. I didn't want the story to end. I didn't want to leave the world the author had conjured up of Dannai the witch and Lucas Caige the werewolf of her dreams (literally), as well as all of the other witches, warlocks, werewolves, etc. who unite with and against them. I made myself slow down and focus in greater detail on the world of the story. It is a world so vibrant and visual, with enchanting (and enchanted) characters at the center of paranormal mayhem. The setting is palpable, with a constant sense of the ocean, rolling, wondrous fog, forests of redwood trees, bonfires and starlit and moonlit skies. I can't imagine a more perfect location for this story or a more perfect time of year than the fall. I reread some scenes to experience the thrill of them again. It was like rewinding a great bit in a movie, or jumping right back in line for a roller coaster. Over a week later I can still see sexy Lucas Caige maneuvering his Harley down a curved foggy road; Dannai sitting by a redwood tree in her pajamas in the middle of the night; the angry wolf in Lucas briefly subdued by the glistening tears in Danny's eyes; Jason Alberich's "tent" with sconces and black velvet; magic floating down like pixie dust. I can recall pieces of all of Killough-Walden's novels long after I read them and that is what I think makes them great. She is as much a conjurer as a storyteller, creating all of these unique worlds so completely that reading her novels almost feels a bit like being under the influence of a transport spell. She has begun a new storyline at the end of "The Spell," and I can't even imagine all it will lead to in the next novel. I only know that I will be along for the ride.

Well you know the story, hot looking hero chases sexy looking heroin. Hero wins. Really, come on now, for once can't the heroin win and the hero get lost. Really how many of you would enjoy being forced to do what you don't want to do. It gets so boring, maybe if the hero fought for the heroin, but no its ALWAYS throw her over your shoulder and take what you want. Worn out storyline

The Spell is another amazing book in the Big Bad Wolf series. Having gotten a small peak at the character Dannai the healer from the the second book "The Strip" I really wanted to know more about this interesting beauty with such amazing powers and Heather did not disappoint me at all. In the Spell you get to know Dannai and Lucas alot better. Lucas is a badass werewolf who hates magic with good reason and Dannai is magic itself. Everything about her is magic. When Dannai starts to dream of werewolves it makes it even harder for her to hide the fact that she is a dormant. From the moment these two meet sparks fly off the pages. I was glued to the story turning the pages as quickly as I could read them to find out what happened next. This story kept me on the edge of my seat. If you haven't read this series yet your missing a great series. If you have and haven't picked up this book yet what are you waiting for! Get it now and you wont be sorry I know I wasn't.

This book is my favor out the 4 books in this series, I love the others, but again this one is my favor. I love how the books make you believe that the women in this series are the damsel in distress but it turns out to be the Big Bad Wolfs are the ones in need of a rescues. This is my go to book when I have nothing in my nook to read this is always a great one to pick back up.
