Overview

Spice and Wolf Manga, Volume 1 by Isuna Hasekura

With his carthorse as his only companion, the young merchant Kraft Lawrence slowly wends his way through dusty back roads in search of profitable trade. But this monotony screeches to a halt when, one night, he encounters a harvest goddess in the guise of a beautiful young girl . . . with wolf ears and a tail! Longing for the northern lands of her birth, Holo the Wisewolf joins Lawrence as he follows the ebb and flow of trade through the countryside. And when the two come across a compelling but suspicious opportunity for profit, will Lawrence with his mercantile chops and Holo with her ancient instincts be able to separate the truth from the lies - and make some coin while they're at it?!

This manga adaptation of Isuna Hasekura's acclaimed Spice and Wolf novel series, also available from Yen Press, is an investment that promises the greatest of entertainment returns!

Saw only the first ep of the anime and found it good. The setting was nice, the characters were interesting but haven't continued watching it yet. And so thought let's see what the manga is about. And its about the same. What got me interested was not only these two characters, the setting but the story as well. Good start, looking forward to Holo and Lawrence's adventures and wonder what they'll do next.

So i purchased this without having every seen the show, read the novel, or even looked up anything about the series. I simply heard it was very good from countless people and decided why not take a leap of faith. I was not disappointed, for me this book is basically the exact opposite from what i normally read/watch in anime but i really liked it. Its just very calm and just a smooth ride(so far, I've yet to go past volume 1). If your looking for something that is out of a legend or fairy tale, back in the middle ages then give this a try. Even if the middle ages discourages you i have to insist to at least give it a shot. Also at the very end of the volume their was about 5-8pages of the Spice&Wolf Novel Volume 1, now for me i never gave a second thought to reading the novel but since it was their and i paid for it i decided to read it and i really liked it. Honestly i think i was able to follow it easier as the novel than in the manga so i'll probably be purchasing the novels since i liked it so much. The art work is just fantastic, the characters, everything i absolutely loved it!

After reading the Spice & Wolf light novels and watching the anime. I must say that the manga is yet another thing you must have if you are a fan of the story. In manga form, you can really love the expressions of Holo's emotions put in emphasis. Buy, it! It's worth the read.

If you like witty humor, and the ideas of traveling as a merchant... this is perfect for you! Even if that just sounds weird, give it a chance, it'll be worth it. :)

After seeing the anime, you can most certainly make out the differences b/w the book and the anime. But still it was diffinitely worth reading and was a lot of fun as well.

I've watched both seasons of spice and wolf the anime, and I figured this would be the story retold, so what's not to enjoy. I later realized the style is a bit different, which actually made the manga more interesting than the anime. I recommend and otaku or manga collector to grab this!
