The first volume of the Gauntlet seems like an odd way to title this as there is only a little bit to do the with the supposed "Gauntlet" that the Kravinovs are making Spider-Man run. Here We get a really good story involving Norma Osborn and his rival with Spider-Man illustrated beautifully by Adam Kubert. Then there's the Electro storyline which is interesting and timely but held back by art that lacks dynamism that a story involving so much electricity needs. The art wasn't bad just ill suited for this tale. The Sandman story that ended the trade was really good. It had old school John Romita Sr.-esque art by Marcos Martin and was actually heart wrenching. It showed the Sandman in a new and interesting light. Overall, there wasn't much cohesion to the overall stories but they were all good. The art was up and down but overall pretty good.
