The spiderwick chronicles has 3 main characters. First, theres Jared, a small boy who always gets into trouble. Next, theres Simon, Jared's twin brother who is really smart and loves animals. Finally, theres Mallory, Simon and Jared's older sister who likes to fence, and finds her brothers really annoying.
The main plot of this story involves magical creatures seeking out the feild guide. The feild guid is a book that has information about the magical world around them. Also, they have to figure out about different creatures and what they do.
Time and place is not spacific in this book, but I'm pretty certain that it is set in the present. The days pass as the days go by, so there is no certain either.
Three children have gone to many places and have met a numerous amount of creatures. Also, some of them were cruel to them. The theme of this story is magical and adventurous. It also has many cliff hangers.
I loved this story and I would reccomend this book to anybody who likes fantasy. It was so exiting, I read it from start to finish. I think anybody who starts reading this will not be able to put it down.
Connecting to this book was really easy. I have read many other books that contain magical things and creatures, because I find them really interesting. Also, puzzles and quizes arefun for me too.

"Beautiful books. Before I go any further I need to talk about the illustrations and the books themselves. I'm a sucker for a gorgeous book with deckle edge and amazing illustrations which this set of books has in spades. Each book has an illustrated cover that carries on throughout the entirety of the story. As I turned the pages I found myself wanting to find another piece of art to admire and enhance my reading; I wasn't disappointed. Toni DiTerlizzi did an amazing job with these books, as he does with all of his books, and brings to life something you would normally only be able to dream about. For me personally I think it's something appealing to both boys and girls, beautiful, but definitely gruesome enough for the toughest boy."Being as I'm a huge fan of anything by Holly Black I read these with great anticipation. In fact I read the entire series in a matter of hours. Black's imagination coupled with the imagery of DiTerlizzi was astounding. Most of the time I think I read these types of books because as a child I was wholly too serious and as an adult I need a reprieve. It's just hard for me to believe any individual could come up with a story full of imaginary characters and things/places that you had never heard of. But Black does it with such ease that I'm sure she's lived there her entire life."As for the story of the three Grace children...normal, typical every day kids doing what more than half of America's children do, cope with divorced parents and moving on with life. Only to have their world flipped upside down, but not by their parents, but a fantastical world they never knew existed until moving to their Aunt Lucinda's home. Jared stumbles upon a secret room filled with treasures from his great grandfather's past as well as a field guide that changes their view of the world forever."I will warn, some of the situations and images in these books are a bit graphic. Depending on how sensitive your child is you may want to wait until they are a bit older to have them read them or they may end up with a few bad dreams. With that one exception I will say these are wonderful books, one's that I will definitely be sharing with my own kiddos when they are a bit older."

A great intro. to fantasy for young readers. My whole family read it (6 yrs, 8 yrs, and two 42 yrs.). We all really enjoyed reading them and were very excited to see the movie, which was nothing like the books. 8 year old went on to read Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles and enjoyed it!

These are great little books for your young readers. Sprites, Brownies, Trolls and Griffins come to life on these pages. Each book is small (for small hands to hold), the chapters are short (for shorter attention spans) and the illustrations are well done.

I could not put any of the five books down. I hope I'm not disappointed when the movie is released. So many movies take away life from the book.

Cool design, cool concept, good story. Not a fantastic novel series, but a fairly decent one. Not disappointed that I purchased itm but it doesn't hold up to Riordan or Pullman, adn definitely not to Rowling. But a decent read...especially for younger children.

I bought this box set because I read the first book in soft cover and loved it. The only book set available to me was this hardcover book set. I'm not disappointed! This collection is gorgeous and I am very happy I ended up with it. It even has a colored image in the front, which the soft covers do not have. Fantastic story! The little drawings inside are such a treat and they are all so beautiful! The story is fun and I love the characters, especially the twins!

When I was in primary school, I used to love taking these books out over and over again from the school library. Now I'm 17, I still remember how fun these books were, definitely a good buy ^^
