Since I just bought two more of Masterton's novels, I thought it prudent to write a review of the work that caused my interest in him. 'Spirit,' is a terrifying novel that takes your mind to places (as a parent) that one fears to go. From the outstandingly mesmerizing and terrifying opening scene to the end, this work doesn't allow you to walk away. In addition, I found the writing itself to be at a level that few can hope to reach. I just purchased Trauma and The Doorkeepers. I can't wait to read them. Graham Masterton's 'Spirit' is a terrific read. His characters are alive and make the reader feel as though they are part of his/her own family. The supernatural story plot is very unique and imaginative. There are times during the story when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. This novel is well-written. It sends the reader back in time to the 1940 & early 1950 eras. I felt very sad for the main characters with respect to all that happened to their lives in the story. It was very realistic. If you are looking for a happy ending, this book isn't for you. But if you want to experience a good read, I highly recommend 'Spirit'. It's a 'hauntingly' good book. 'Spirit' was the first book I've ever read by Masterton. I've already purchased another of his books and plan to read more as well. You should too! Enjoy!!
