Reviewed by Karen Pirnot for Readers' Favorite Spirit Immortal by Samuel Scime is a provocative book about one man's quest to find the human soul. The author is a ophthalmologist who believes he witnessed the soul entering the body of a baby at birth. He also recalls seeing what he believed to be the soul leaving the body when attending the deaths of two individuals. Scime described the colors of the infant soul as varied while the soul particles of those who died were primarily colorless. The author speculates on why these differences may occur. There is then a section about physical phases using recent research to tie what was seen to that which is known in the scientific community. The author then speculates on issues such as the existential paradigm, light, personalities, and spirits. It is evident that the author fully believes he writes the truth and yet, there is little evidence other than his first-hand accounting of his experiences. The author puts it succinctly when he states that some will believe what he writes and others will view his thoughts as speculation or imagination. Spirit Immortal is a book with many topics, none of which is delineated in depth. There are thoughts on love, truth, beauty, humanity in general, and the concept of the birth spirit. While I found some of the research and speculation fascinating, I wish the author had chosen one topic and written in greater depth. As it stands, Scime has given the reader a lot of speculation coupled with personal observations and this leaves most readers with more questions than answers.
