I could only force myself to make it three chapters into this book. The dialogue is stilted and its tags switch back and forth (e.g. he said, then said he). Several sentences ended on 'was' or 'of'. There were several paragraphs that went on with pronouns without naming who they referenced. The elemental magical system didn't feel developed. The magickers seemed to summon elementals at will. Is this well of energy endless? What do the magic users sacrifice to conjure their spells? Right now -- nothing. The author went too far out of the way to ensure the reader got his meaning. The writing style came across as condescending.  It has a fair premise,  but falls short of a strong first draft.
