About the Author
Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan's most beloved animation directors. In 2005 he was awarded the Venice International Film Festival's Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement, and his Studio Ghibli received the festival's Osella Award for overall achievement in 2004. Miyazaki's films include Spirited Away, winner of the 2002 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo, all of which have received great acclaim in the U.S. Miyazaki's other achievements include the highly regarded manga series Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Starting Point: 1979-1996, a collection of essays, interviews, and memoirs that chronicle his early career and the development of his theories of animation. Both are published in English by VIZ Media.

The best way to enjoy Spirited Away is by watching the movie. But these books allow you to enjoy static images from the movie, which are stunning.
I saw the anime version that i really enjoyed but i didnt like the manga version. It was very very slow paced and didnt really capture the action. In each panel that girl had moved about a foot. I also find having to look into the back for sound effects too tedious. If you have a choice, rent the movie.
His movie of SPIRITED AWAY has EXPIRED ME TO WATCH 100s of times until i have memorized the whole thing. Thanks to him, he's the greatest animator of all time and i also like to read and read all of his books. A GOOD OLD 5 STAR for him. THANK YOU HAYAO MIYAZAKI!
I have never even heard of Miyazaki before (yes, all you anime lovers, gasp), and I usually do not like anime of any kind. But this is a total exception. Spirited Away is a wonderful, fantastic story that, to me, is extremely moving. (New paragraph here- BN doesn't show paragraphs, for some reason.) I didn't expect Spirited Away to amount to much in the first place, though- that was my animosity-to-generally-all-anime-films showing. In fact, I didn't expect to like Spirited Away at all; the only reason I *did* watch it was because someone gave the DVD to my little sister as an Easter gift, and she wanted to watch it, so I watched it along with her. (New paragraph) Boy, was I wrong in my opinions about Spirited Away. The plot, which I had expected to be cheesy, wasn't cheesy at all- instead, it was full of twists and turns. The characters, which I supposed were empty and fake, like those anime series on TV *cough* Sailor Moon *cough* turned out to be full of personality, like a real human being. And I was totally awed by all the little actions which aren't really all that important but add to the realistic quality of the film- like when Chihiro is putting on her shoes. Not a very important scene, to be sure, but the details of her making the shoes snug and tight, just like any real kid, really made me appreciate the film. And also, of course, the filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki. (New paragraph) Simply put, I just love this film, and it will stay forever in my archive of 'Best Film Ever.'
I read this book in the store about five times and still couldn't put it down. it is the greatest! if you love anime, good plots, and want something sutible for all ages. THIS IS IT!
I've already seen Spirited Away twice in theaters, and this is a must-see movie for anyone. This book offers high quality images from the film, and will satsify anybody's tastes.
