Spitfire by Carla Doolin

Kane is healing on his little slice of heaven in Puffin Cove, Newfoundland. But one look at a beautiful redhead in a quiet pub, and the life he has so carefully rebuilt tilts on its axis.
When Laura leaves her empty life behind, she certainly doesn't expect to fall instantly in love with a small east coast town, and a crusty, sexy Irishman. Warning: Adult language and sexual content.

About the Author

Life is short, and love is what we strive for as human beings. This is why Carla Doolin writes contemporary adult romance. Her books are high on the spice scale, so take a pass if you don't like steam beyond the bedroom door. She writes about people who are so real, they could be your neighbours, and you'll wish they were your friends. It's hard not to fall a little in love with her characters, and you will find yourself rooting for them long before the happy ever after.Carla wishes you love and happy reading as she walks her dogs with her most excellent husband, or rides away into the sunset on her Harley, waving the cool wave (her hubby says it's not cool to wave like you're swatting at seagulls). She'd love to hear from you. She can be found any day of the week on Facebook, Twitter, or at her website.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Best part of this book-KANE. Holy hotness I could eat him up....ok there are other good parts too. The book starts off by getting to know Laura and I liked her instantly. She's not a whiny pansie ass female lead-actually she's quite brave from the get go. She's lived and knows what she needs to do for herself and is finally at a place in her life where she is ready to take care of her needs for once.  The fun really starts when she gets to Newfoundland. The author does a great job describing the landscape and building images of Laura's surroundings. One of my favorite scences is when Laura enters a local bar in town. I felt like I was right there with her sitting on the bar stool. Laura's quick wit and sense of humor was refreshing. Now Kane...good God! He just...yum. Gorgeous, loyal, dedicated, brooding but not in an Edward from Twilight way but a man who has lived and lost and is protecting is heart & the people he loves.  I love, love loved that this book had characters that had some life experience. Kane and Laura are both near 40. Laura has grown kids. It's great to read a story once in a while that doesn't revolve around kids that just graduated from college and oh by the way are gabillionaires..I know it's all fiction but this book was such a nice change of pace. I hope she stays on this path.  I look forward to reading about Jill & Landon.

I enjoyed the story of Laura and Kane( and several secondary characterrs).  Kane is a widower and Laura, a divorcee w/ young adult sons. This is a story about a Mom at 39 who worked and took care of her two sons. Laura worked as a nurse and her life was raising her sons. The young guys are now 19 and 21, enrolled in College/University.  After a year of just going through the motions of living,  Laura leaves Toronto and moves to St Johns. The 5 stars, because of Laua's BF Jillian's daughter, Shannon and several lol scenes. There were a few times that I found Laura's character stuck on the same on  topic and it was a bit annoying. Kane less than Laura. Overall, I really enjoyed reading the story, happy ending and would recommend. I am now searching for Sweets (Jillian & Landon's story). …vrnb. {WARNING: language/sexual content}

Great story for Laura and Kane.  The descriptions of the scenary and the events in Canada want to make me visit, and very soon.  The love story develops really well and it was overall, VERY WELL WRITTEN.  I am looking forward to the next book.

The story was interesting; but I found it difficult to get beyond the immaturity of the main character. Kain and Jillian were both interesting and consistant characters; but the main girl-not so much. She needs to be more mature in fitting with the rest of the characters and with her role in the book.

Good book! I didn't really care for the dialogue between the characters because at times it was a little hard for me to follow given the way they talked but it was still very good. Also, Laura got on my nerves a little just because she acted ridiculous at one point. Overall, for a free read it was well worth it.

Hey all. This is Carla Doolin. Thank you all for your wonderful reviews. I take them very much to heart, and so I have uploaded a second edition of Spitfire, minus almost all of the F-bombs. Again, I thank you all very much, and wish you many hours of happy reading.

I didnt like the Lords name being constantly taken in vain and i didnt like that both laura and jil dropped f-bombs so casually. But i did love the love story. Not for under 18 due to very hot sex. Phyl p

I received this as a free ARC in exchange for a honest reveiew. I enjoyed this book, it was a wonderful love story of two people coming together after going through some rocky things in their past. I will say though that Laura kind of irritated me at times with all her over thinking. I will say that I was very happy with the unexpected ending! I can't wait to read the next book, I'm interested in what happens to Landon now.

What a wonderful story. It has been a long time since I have read a story that has made me look for the kleenex. It was beautifully written and so much care was given in bringing the settings to life. Would love to make a trip there! Spitfire is now on my favorite read list.
