Spring Fires by Cynthia Wright

Dashing Nicholai Beauvisage returns to America in 1793, hardened by the terrors of the French Revolution. He lost his heart to a beauty who died at the guillotine and now desires only the unfettered pleasures of a rake.

However, his plans are soon complicated by Lisette Hahn, an independent beauty who runs a CoffeeHouse where Jefferson and Hamilton argue politics. Proud of her success, she's been able to rise above the desires of her heart - until Nicholai arrives back in Philadelphia. That very night, Lisette finally gives her passions free rein...but what will the dawn bring?

Beloved characters from Caroline, Touch the Sun, and Silver Storm return as supporting characters in this sensuous, enchanting story that sweeps from a new, vibrant America across the ocean to the glittering salons of London.

About the Author

Cynthia Wright is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the two Rakes & Rebels series, 12 intertwining historical romances starring the irresistible Raveneau & Beauvisage families. She has also written beloved series set during the Renaissance and in the American West. Romantic Times Magazine hails Cynthia's novels as "Romance the way it was meant to be."

HIS MAKE-BELIEVE BRIDE, Cynthia's latest release, is the story of Mouette Raveneau and Justin St. Briac, her first "older" couple, who come to their tempestuous relationship with plenty of baggage, defenses, and hidden longings. Justin, the untamable brother of Gabriel St. Briac, also appeared in THE SECRET OF LOVE. Mouette is the adult daughter of André & Devon Raveneau, from SILVER STORM.

Currently, Cynthia is at work on a new novel set in 16th century Scotland! It will reunite readers with the St. Briac family as Christophe de St. Briac travels to Scotland to serve as an architect to King James V...

Cynthia lives in northern California. She enjoys riding a tandem bike and taking road trips in an airstream trailer with her Colombian-born husband, Alvaro & their corgi, Watson. She is also devoted to her two adorable grandsons who live nearby.

Loved the story! Loved how you brought characters back from the previous books along with mentioning St. Briac from the book "You and no other". Fabulous!

-ePLEASE READ IN ORDER!! You will find the stories richer in the telling as the lives cross over from the Beauvisage and Raveneau novels. I bought the box set of each, not only is it a better deal, but to fully appreciate all the character's it is a must buy. I know it they are stand alone books, but I can't imagine I would enjoy the stories as much as I have, if I didn't understand how they all came together. I found Lisette character strong in the beginning and the end, but didn't care for her lack of back bone in the middle of the story. It was like I was reading two different Heroine's, but she does get very interesting in the end. Nick is a strong alpha male, as usual women fall all over him and he has taken advantage of their favors. The love making isn't descriptive as you get with many author's, yes some things are mentioned, but not page after page as some Romance Author's do. I loved the ending a lot and this book brought character's back from the 2 previous stories in this book and from book one of the Raveneau bundle. If you need someone to buy you some books, please I can't stress enough these two bundles are a must have!! Rarely, can I say I would re-read a series, but this is a keeper. I read a review on another site about this book, that disturbed me. The reviewer stated when this book came out in print form, there was infidelity, but when it was re-done for e-book format, that part was re-written. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW UPSET I WOULD HAVE BEEN, IF THAT PART OF THE STORY WAS KEPT IN. So just know, if you read this story years ago, that part has been deleted (thankfully). (ljb)

SPRING FIRES always holds a special place in my heart because it was the first book I read by Cynthia Wright, found one day on my aunt's bookshelf 25+ years ago. I still haven't given it back to her. Set in post-Revolutionary War America, I was enchanted by the story of Nicholai Beauvisage, back in Philadelphia after spending 10 years in France, and Lisette Hahn, independent woman who runs the local coffee house in Philadelphia. Tragedy first throws them together, then stubbornness pulls them apart. Nicholai and Lisette get off to a bumpy start, but find that they care for each other more than they want to admit and they travel the rocky road to romance with the help of friends and family. Ms. Wright does an outstanding job of weaving the history of the time, with famous figures showing up as secondary characters. Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson and their in-fighting over the war in France gets several mentions and President George Washington has a cameo. (On a re-read, my inner HAMILTON fan-girl gave many cheers.) Far from detracting to the story, these historical mentions add favor and provide context for the action. Also providing cameos are the heroes/heroines from the previous RAKES AND REBELS books: Alec & Caroline (CAROLINE), Lion & Meagan (TOUCH THE SUN), and even Andre and Devon (SILVER STORM). They provide much meddling into Nicholai and Lisette's story. That being said, SPRING FIRES does stand alone. The first time I read it, I did not have the background of the other stories, but was able to glean enough from the book that I had no problem following the plot. This is a book I have on my keeper shelf and have also bought in ebook form. When I do re-read it every few years, I am sure to read all of the Rakes and Rebels books in order, because it is more fun to follow the families, friends and their intertwining lives as they happen. As a librarian, I don't always purchase my books, but Cynthia Wright is on my "must buy" list, so when a new title comes out, I am sure to purchase it. She is also one of the top authors I recommend to people looking for historical romances.

Lisette is frustratingly stubborn and proud. I sometimes want to strangle her myself. And Nick nearly gave up on her. Their passion is what drew them together.

Sighhhh, Nicholai Beauvisage....Now there's a man! I'm terrible at writing reviews, but these novels of Family Beauvisage need to be read! Lisette and her insecurities almost ruin her opportunity for true love and passion with this delicious man! Wouldn't we all want to marry a Beauvisage?? Cynthia Wright continues to succeed with her great writing, her details of the revolutionary period (which I learned more about from her books, then I did in school!) and the characters that become like family! I'm so glad we get to visit them in each book.
