This book is a short cute tale of a dog who loves to watch squirrels. It looks like they are having so much fun in the trees above bouncing back and forth collecting acorns that he wants to be a squirrel too. He tries his best, but isn't able to "fly" like them, so to fit in, he tries collecting a pile of acorns on the ground. All his barking disturbs the neighbors and his owner finally comes to get him. In the end... He decides it really is good to be a dog. I am sure kids, especially younger ones, will enjoy this book. I am sure they will be able to relate. It is well written and very colorfully illustrated with beautiful pictures and lots of detail. This story reminds me of how as a kid we dream of being something else... a super hero who can fly, an animal, or something other than what we are. In the end, what God created us to be, is always the best. I was blessed with a free e-copy of this book courtesy of Pump Up Your Book and the Author. I was not required to review this book in a positive way and all opinions are my own.
This makes me wish my son was little again so we could have read this together. A dog dreams of being a squirrel and racing along the Squirrel Superhighway with his bushy tailed friends. But dogs can’t climb trees and squirrels don’t speak dog. The next time your dog jumps at a tree and barks and barks at the squirrels, you’ll be wondering what he’s saying. It’s a fun story about being happy with who you are and what you have. And there are some lovely illustrations to make you and your young ones smile.
