Stanley Penwellington, fed up of being the school SWOT, skips school and takes himself off to St Ives harbour. After being attacked by a seagull, a fisherman gives Stanley a tip on how best to deal with seagulls. Stanley rushes home to put his plan into action. Stanley's plan goes awry and, whilst suffering the consequences of skipping school, he makes a discovery about birds in general and about the changes in the environment. The book is both humorous and educational and aimed at young readers.
