An exciting and stunningly original new voice in Regency Era historical romance fiction, Jenny Brown works magic, mixing sensual romance with astrology for a truly unforgettable Star Crossed Seduction. Following the success of her sensational debut novel, Lord Lightning, Jenny continues her Lords of the Seventh House series—in which each hero is a different sign of the Zodiac—with an enthrallingly romantic tale of a British Captain of the Dragoons, a sexy Scorpion, who is smitten by a beautiful pickpocket bent upon revenge. A dark and sensual story reminiscent of the acclaimed novels of Loretta Chase, Anna Campbell, and Mary Balogh, but with a very tantalizing touch of the occult thrown in, Star Crossed Seduction is top-flight historical romance with a uniquely unforgettable difference.

This is the second book in a new Astrology series for Ms. Brown and it made a wonderfully stand alone. To be honest, I had no clue that it was a second in a series until I started to write this review. Lol Though I didn't love this book I did like it quite a bit. The concept was intriguing, a historical romance based on astrology which was a skeptical thing back then. I adored Ms. Brown's writing style which was very poetic and fluid, weaving together a dark and heavy plot of royal intrigue and government subterfuge with a romance rife with deception and distrust. Though I did enjoy the concept I was unable to connect with the characters or even picture them in my head. Also, Temperance and Trev's relationship lacked realism for me. They were so back and forth with each other and constantly suspicious, it was hard to believe that they were so much in love in such a short time when they couldn't trust one another. The story also gets over detailed in the astrology department for those unfamiliar with it which can be confusing and take away from the actual story arc. Over all though, Star Crossed Seduction was still a good read and I would recommend it to someone looking for a different kind of historical romance.
I'm not usually a big romance reader but this well written historical novel with a strong romantic element had me hooked from the start. The author kept me turning the pages until the very end and the emotional twists and turns were a delight. Well done and I look forward to the next one!
In 1820 Dragoon Captain Miles Trevelyan has just retuned home to find a proper "military" bride after a decade stationed in India. One week in London and the bored Miles wants to go "home" as he was only fifteen when he enlisted following his father's death. A tiny girl sells Miles a poorly drawn picture of a broadsword while all in black Temperance "Tem" Smith picks his pocket. However, Miles catches her in the act, but is frozen when he sees her. She flees knowing he saw her. Miles cannot forget the woman in black and searches for her. She loathes herself for feeling passion for a dragoon as his unit killed her lover. While his mom seeks advice for her son's marital hunt from an astrologer who runs a homeless shelter for young women, Tem learns her dead lover lives in America. Trev finds her and persuades her to be his mistress. As lust turns to love, trust remains difficult for this pair of Scorpios to accept. The second astrological Regency romance (see Lord Lightning) stars an intriguing pair who meet when she steals his wallet. The story line starts slow until the second encounter speeds up the pace as the two Scorpios battle one another and their respective hearts. Anchored by real historical tidbits interwoven into the plot, readers will enjoy this fun nineteenth century tale as love is in the stars. Harriet Klausner
