This wasn't interesting at all. The plot was so predictable and the entire book is about on the reading level of a fourth grader. Even if I was eight years old I wouldn't read it. Seriously...this is a horrible book. The characters weren't believable and the plot was very simplistic and unbelievable. I've never heard of a dog saving people's lives. So it probably wouldn't happen at all. I repeat again, this is an absolutely horrible book. The summary of the book is about a girl named Maggie tries to save her dog, named Sirius, has been outlawed. However, when a steamer crashes and people are trapped, Maggie knows that Sirius can help save the people. So she has to choose between revealing her secret of keeping Sirius and possibly risk his life. But, it is either that or let dozens of people die. So basically the book sucked. It was horrible and absolutely time wasting. However, I think it would be okay for maybe a 4th grader or a dog lover. However, even then it is barely passable as a book. In my opinion all the copies of this book need to be recycled. Yeah...it was seriously that bad. Don't read this book. Don't even look at it. It's not worth the time at all. I could have done a million better and more productive things while I was reading this book. But, this book stole all of this away from me. Seriously, this book is awful. Never read it. Don't even think about reading it.

Wonderful! I think it was full of suprises and it has a bunch of things I would want to see in a book! I think this book would be good for all ages. Maggie is the most bravest girl! I can't believe that she would let her dog swim in such weather! It was just full of mysteries and suprises. It was just the most fantastic book I have ever read. It just blew away my mind!

Star in the Storm Joan Harlow Stars 1 The story did not appeal to me. I thought it was awful. It was not at all interesting to me. I loved the front cover of the book but I hated the context. I did like the dog and the fact that he hid in a cave. This book was not for me. It maybe interesting to others. I am more into wild life literature.

This book was not interesting. It is deffinetely a childrens book and not for teens or preteens. More for elementary students. The introduction tells about the main characters, Maggie and her dog Sirus. It has a little mystery, about what will happen with her dog, but that ends very shortly. The middle was very rushed. Everything happened very fast. In the end she gets to keep Sirus. It was overall a boring childrens book.

A small town in Newfoundland has outlawed all non-sheepherding dogs. One little girl named Maggie doesn't want to give up her dog. She put her dog in hiding hoping it wouldn't be found. Then one day a steamer crashes with hundreds of sailors on board. Maggie has to make a dicision to bring him out of hiding or keep him hid to save his life. This book is amazing. I recomened it for everyone.

STAR IN THE STORM has all the ingredients to become a classic children's novel--exciting, page-turning plot; wonderful, complex characters who seem real and fully-drawn; a fascinating, turbulent setting (19th century Newfoundland) that will be new and exciting to young readers; and, most of all, a brave, loving dog for all seasons named Sirius, who will be taken into the hearts of readers young and old. Children who read this book will learn a lot about Newfoundland. Yet,it will not seem like learning but as though they are taking part in an exciting adventure.

We read this book as a class and really liked it. It was full of suspense! The main character, Maggie had to make a big decision at the end of the book. Her decision was whether to let Sirius out of the house to save the people or not. Our favorite part was the ending when Maggie got to keep her dog because Tamar gave her a baby sheep. Our other favorite character was Sirius because he was a brave, nice, and loyal dog. Sirius helped the people by finding a hidden waterfall.

I did not find this book very interesting. It would not normally draw my attenchen, but it is sentomental. I would recomend this book to third graders and below. It was not challenging or thrilling. I conciter this book a life lessons book. Meaning I wouldn't read it if you like fast pase book that will keep you up all night wanting more. I like dogs all right but even an animal lover won't like this.

I didn't like this book because it didn't make sense to me. I didn't like the cover or anything about it. I normally like dogs, but this story I didn't find interesting. I don't like the way the dog looks in the story. I would not recommend this book to others to read.

Joan Haitt Harlow's book, Star In The Storm, is one of the best rainy day books I've ever read. Her book about a young girls love of her Newfoundland dog, Sirius, is a true definition of love. Maggie, the young girl, is playing with her cousin, vera, at their quidnunc, their secret hiding place, which later becomes sirius' hiding place. Tamar and Mr.Rand are the wealthy sheep owners in Bonnie Bay, become furius with Maggie and her family, including Sirius, because Tamar thought Sirius had chased one of the Rands sheep off a cliff. Sirius had actually jumped into the water to save the sheep. After this incident, the Rands have the constible come to Maggies home with rifles to kill sirius. They explain to Maggies parents that the law of only sheepherding dogs are allowed in Bonnie Bay.Little did Rand know that Maggie and Sirius were already on their way to the quidnunc. The rest of the book is really detailed, it makes you want to keep reading. All in all, the book was very good and I reccomed it to any one wanting something to do on a rainy day.

This book is about a girl named Maggie and her New Foundland dog,Sirius. In Bonnie bay, New Foundland, the local sheperds are trying to pass a law making New Foundland dogs illeagal unless they are being used for herding. When the law is passed,Maggie hides Sirius from being taken away or put down. But when there's a ship wreck will Maggie reveal her secert and use Sirius to save the drowning people or will she keep Sirius hidden? I say this is a five star book because of the suspense, tear jerking events, and the strong bond of a girl and her dog. Publishers call this book a classic, my friends say they cried during some parts, and I say this is one of my most favorite books. I recommend this book to everyone!!
