If you've seen the movie, the book will only serve as a refresher of what happened in the movie. This is understandable, as it is written from the screenplay. The story was enjoyable as were the characters, although I wonder how Jim Kirk could withstand being beat up as much as he was. I appreciate the character development and the humor though. It reminded me of the type of humor in the movie, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. However, I was hoping to find out more details from reading the book, such as why the Starfleet Academy cadets had to take a space transport to travel from Iowa to San Francisco. I was also hoping to learn more about Spock's and Kirk's youth. Overall, the story was great, but if you've seen the movie, you don't really need to read the book.

This Movie Tie-In filled the holes in the movie. The novel remained true to the motion picture and even had a few new surprises. Seeing (reading) the young crew develop and jell throughout the novel gives you great appreciation for the TV series, and what the characters endured as they made rank to serve on the U.S.S. Enterprise. For anyone not knowing anything about Star Trek, this is a great book to read to see its start. The prologue brought tears of joy to my eyes. Read this book.

What I like most about this book and the film version, it stays true to the continuity already established in the previous ten films and the five tv shows, while at the same time creating an alternate timeline for these characters. If you are die-hard Star Trek fan, or just coming into the franchise, you will enjoy this book!

This book cloesly follows the movie, but in it's own way is unique. It show character's thoughts and fills gaps in the movie. It is a good read at 230 pages and is a must read for any trekkie.

I recieved the sample just five mins ago and read it. I recognized the lines in the movie and more besides. Looks great so far for sure! Now im wondering if i should use 7.50 to buy the full book. I just might!........... I am a fan only of this movie and the Original Series. I like them indeed :-)

This book goes into a more in-depth story than the movie. It explains some issues that the movie could not due to time constraints and sets up a plausible and yet still thrilling new beginning for the Enterprise folks. Quinto is great at the voices and characters as well, capturing the essence of each, especially of his own character Spock as well as Kirk. Loved the book more than the movie as one can imagine a whole lot better than the movie and get into the characters so much better as well. 5 Stars, Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the book. It followed the movie well and gave just a couple of details that weren't in the movie - my favorite part.

Foster does a nice job of filling in some of the detail skipped in the movie...the Corvette over the quarry scene makes a lot more sense now.

Totally a delightful book! Such a fun way to stay immersed in the story. I loved reading it, and I'll pick it up again. For a fan of the movie, this is just the icing on the cake. While essentially the same story line, it has a few extra scenes, and some differing dialogue. Would most definitely buy again!

Since I am a Trekker I automatically rate five stars. To the square that commented on post three: do you want me to send khan against yiu?

A refreshing take on Kirk & Co. An ingenious idea to restart the franchise, using a simple idea of someone from the future who invades the past and changes everything we know about the Star Trek universe. I really love this story!
